Volume One, Chapter 42: Slaying the Serpent King!
King of Ten Thousand Snakes, Tord (Bronze Boss, in Sacrifice state): Level 25.
Health: 14,800 / 153,000.
Energy: 250 / 1,190.
Attack: 3,940.
Defense: 441.
Skills: Blood Spirit Slash, Sacrifice.
...
"As expected of the Sacrifice skill—attack and defense have surged by 80%."
Seeing Tord’s attributes skyrocket while in the Sacrifice state, Lin Yu’s brow furrowed deeply, his expression growing grave.
There was no denying it; the Sacrifice skill was truly divine.
Not only did it boost his stats significantly, but it also granted immunity to control effects—and it lasted for thirty seconds.
With nearly four thousand attack power, even Tord’s normal attacks could deal damage to him, let alone skill strikes.
Yet, Lin Yu felt no trace of fear. Although Tord’s attacks could barely pierce his defense now, the damage from basic attacks was still negligible to him.
What he truly needed to withstand was the skill damage.
Judging from the remaining energy, Lin Yu estimated that Tord could only unleash Blood Spirit Slash twice more.
So, if he could endure two Blood Spirit Slashes, he could slay Tord.
With his current attack power, even with Tord’s defense boosted by 80%, Lin Yu could still deal over twelve hundred damage per hit.
Even without factoring in passive counter-damage, about ten strikes should be enough to defeat him.
With this in mind, Lin Yu wasted no time. His body surged forward again, charging directly at Tord.
His taunt timer had less than a minute left; he had to finish this quickly before things took a turn.
"Seeking death? I don’t believe you can withstand my attacks now. Watch me cleave you in one blow!"
Tord’s eyes flashed with scorn upon seeing Lin Yu daring to attack proactively.
Sure, Lin Yu’s defense was high, but his current offense was incomparable to before. Dealing damage to Lin Yu was now effortless!
"Blood Spirit Slash! Die!"
Tord roared fiercely, his blood-stained blade glowing a deep crimson.
Without hesitation, he swung it toward the charging Lin Yu.
Yet Lin Yu did not retreat. He pressed forward relentlessly.
At his current speed, dodging was impossible, so he chose to stand firm and rely on his attacks to mitigate some of the incoming damage.
"Truly courting death!"
Seeing Lin Yu choose to clash head-on, a wild madness crossed Tord’s face.
In his current state, unleashing Blood Spirit Slash was terrifying—no knight even at levels thirty or forty would dare to block it.
He didn’t believe Lin Yu could survive.
“Bang!”
Empowered by Sacrifice, Blood Spirit Slash unleashed an immense force.
At the moment of collision, Lin Yu was slammed violently backward, crashing into a towering tree and snapping it in half.
Simultaneously, a horrifying damage number flashed from the nearby bushes.
“-4492!”
“You brat, you forced my hand—why must you die so?”
Tord’s face finally broke into a triumphant grin as he gazed at Lin Yu’s battered form and the staggering damage dealt.
In his eyes, Lin Yu was doomed.
He had faced adventurers like Lin Yu before; this kind of damage meant not just one death, but two or three would suffice.
But before the smile could fully bloom, it began to fade.
Because he saw Lin Yu standing back up.
“How is this possible?!”
Tord stared at Lin Yu in disbelief.
He hadn’t expected Lin Yu to survive.
That blow had dealt nearly four and a half thousand damage—how could a level nine warrior endure that?
Lin Yu, however, paid no heed to Tord’s shock.
Wiping blood from his mouth, he looked forward and smiled faintly.
“King of Ten Thousand Snakes, how many more times can you unleash that damage? If not many, then it’s my turn.”
“Impossible. This is absolutely impossible.”
Tord’s pupils dilated as though seeing a ghost, his face filled with disbelief.
Lin Yu was a level nine warrior with absurdly high defense and an enormous health pool—how could this be?
Yet, no matter how unwilling he was to accept it, the facts remained unchanged.
As Tord raged, Lin Yu launched a fierce counterattack.
Moment by moment, damage numbers appeared over Tord’s head.
“-1236!”
“-1237!”
“-1236!”
...
With his health already low, after just a dozen or so strikes from Lin Yu, Tord’s health bar drained to zero and he collapsed.
His eyes remained wide open, a look of unwillingness to die etched on his face.
Clearly, he could not comprehend how a level nine adventurer could possess such terrifying power.
[Notification: You have slain the Bronze Boss King of Ten Thousand Snakes, Tord, in the novice village. A server-wide announcement will be made. Do you wish to hide your name?]
Only when Tord finally breathed his last did Lin Yu hear the familiar system prompt.
[Hide.]
Lin Yu chose to remain anonymous; now was not the time to draw attention.
[Server Announcement: Congratulations to the anonymous player for achieving the first kill of the Bronze Boss King of Ten Thousand Snakes, Tord, in the novice village. We encourage all players to continue striving!]

...
“How is this possible? That’s a Bronze Boss! Someone in the novice village actually defeated it?”
“Holy crap, you heard that right? A Bronze Boss was slain?”
Upon hearing the server-wide announcement, the online players instantly became restless.
Even a level twenty player would find it difficult to kill a Bronze Boss, let alone novices in the village.
Moreover, most of the top players had already reached level ten and moved on to the main city for class advancements.
This kill of Tord was all the more astonishing.
With the announcement echoing across the server, the entire realm buzzed with excitement.
After all, this was the first-ever kill of a Bronze Boss, and it happened right in the novice village!
“Could it be true? Did that kid really succeed?”
Not only players were stunned. When the announcement rang through the novice village, the blacksmith Li also halted his hammering, eyes wide with shock as he stared toward the Snake Valley.
Only an adventurer who actually killed the boss would trigger such an announcement, and the only one recently undertaking the King of Ten Thousand Snakes quest was Lin Yu.
As for other players, it was unlikely since no one would be foolish enough to provoke such a monster.
Even Li himself knew how difficult it was to defeat Tord.
Most shocking of all to Li was that Tord had leveled up, yet still was slain by Lin Yu.
This spoke volumes about Lin Yu’s strength.
