Chapter 20: The Abduction of Conan
Page 1/3
Conan’s recent days had been quite eventful, primarily because he had ultimately been forced back into the first grade of elementary school—and had three mischievous kids fixated on him. After an adventure in a “haunted house,” he uncovered the truth behind a murder case from five years ago. Then, he traveled with the Mouri father and daughter, who had gained fame and fortune thanks to the “Sleeping Kogoro,” and solved a high-society feud aboard a luxury cruise on their return. Not long after returning home, he dealt with a medical dispute. Kii wasn’t sure if it was because Conan had been busier with his cases lately, but Yoshiko and Yusaku hadn’t made their move yet.
The good news was that, perhaps because most of Conan’s recent cases were out of town or reported after the fact, the workload of the Metropolitan Police Department’s First Investigation Division had lightened considerably for quite some time.
At that moment, inside the Mouri Detective Agency, Conan was playing a game. Ran sat nearby, asking about Conan’s parents. Conan glanced back briefly, his hands never stopping their movements, simply uttered an “Oh,” and returned his full focus to the battle.
“What kind of ‘oh’ is that? Your parents transferred overseas and just left you here alone—that’s absolutely unreasonable! You’re so pitiful!” Ran snapped, her voice rising in anger.
Detective Kogoro Mouri chimed in, lamenting that after all this time, there was still no news of Conan’s parents. The father and daughter were discussing visiting Professor Agasa to see if he knew how to contact Conan’s parents.
While Conan was rapidly pondering how to resolve his current predicament, the doorbell rang. Ran went to answer it, briefly exchanged words with the visitor, then turned around, beaming with joy.
“Conan, someone’s here to pick you up. Look outside—the lady who came to get you is your mother!”
Conan looked and saw a round-faced, slightly plump woman.
“Huh?” Conan was stunned.
“Conan, I’m so sorry for leaving you all alone here. It must have been so lonely…” The woman knelt down and suddenly hugged Conan tightly, startling him into a dumbfounded expression.
Struggling free, Conan shouted vehemently that he didn’t know her.
But the woman merely wore a troubled look and explained that children sometimes throw tantrums. She then handed a business card to the Mouri duo, introducing herself as Fumiyo Edogawa.
Watching the Mouri father and daughter chat amiably with Fumiyo Edogawa, Conan was utterly flabbergasted.
Conan was a fabricated identity—how could he possibly have a mother?
Unaware of anything suspicious, the Mouri family entrusted Conan to Fumiyo Edogawa, completely ignoring the fact that Conan was pounding on the car window from the passenger seat, making a racket.
“Madam, don’t forget your gratitude!” Kogoro called out as the car drove away.

As the car pulled away, Kogoro reminded her once more.
“Goodbye, Conan…” Ran silently whispered in her heart.
In the car, Fumiyo Edogawa explicitly revealed Conan’s true identity as Shinichi Kudo, which utterly shocked him. However, taking advantage of the moment when she drew a gun to threaten him, he slammed on the accelerator, causing the vehicle to lose control and crash into a parking lot, giving him the chance to escape.
By then, the world of Kudo had turned wintry. Amidst swirling snow, Conan struggled to survive. Throughout the journey, he pondered why his identity had been exposed—he had never revealed himself since shrinking.
He could not return to the Mouri Detective Agency, as that would endanger Ran.
Ultimately, he decided to seek help from Professor Agasa. But the professor wasn’t home. Conan waited for a long time in the corner of a wall, braving the heavy snowfall, until the professor finally returned. Just as Conan was about to approach, someone struck him from behind, knocking him unconscious.
When he awoke, he found himself tied up with ropes inside a room and overheard a lengthy conversation—enough to outmatch Gin in a cosplay showdown—but Conan managed to extract key information, such as the details of a transaction scheduled for the next day.
Later that night, he used a broken bottle to cut through the ropes, luckily found a storage room beneath a cushion, and hid there. The next day, he successfully deceived his captors and waited for them to leave for the transaction.
Only then did he dare emerge and search the room for clues.
He eventually identified the phrase “Mihama Luxury Hotel 30” from a ragged newspaper and a calendar with torn edges.
Tracking the lead, he deduced that “30” referred to a parking space and eventually followed a suspicious tall man to room 301.
Before he was nearly discovered, Conan slipped into the adjacent room. To deceive a child there, he revealed a deeply embarrassing backstory: “I am Detective Conan from outer space,” and used a bowtie voice changer to impersonate “Rebo, the Alien.”
He even convinced the little girl next door to give him her chewing gum by claiming it was “Detective Conan’s top secret.”
After accomplishing all this, Conan used the opportunity of a waiter delivering food to stick the gum over the keyhole and sneak into room 301.
Just as he hid in the wardrobe, finally feeling relieved, he heard a voice from outside—a tall man wearing a sinister smiling mask and a high hat spoke:
“Let me introduce you to a guest.”
Conan was terrified.
The woman immediately searched the serving cart but found nothing.
The man then yanked open the wardrobe door.
“In fact, he’s hiding right here in this closet!”
Pointing his gun at the spot, Conan was genuinely petrified this time. He tried to use his watch’s tranquilizer dart but discovered it had been tampered with.
“Goodbye, high school detective Shinichi Kudo!”

The man pulled the trigger.
In that instant, Conan’s mind raced with countless thoughts.
However, the gun was a toy.
Everyone in the room burst into laughter.
Conan looked dumbfounded as the man removed his mask.
It was his father.
As expected, the woman claiming to be his mother really was, and the supposed transaction partner turned out to be Professor Agasa.
Conan was speechless.
Yusaku began to explain that this was a deduction test for Conan, commenting that his skills barely passed.
Finally, Yusaku and Yoshiko smiled warmly and suggested, “You should leave this dangerous country quickly and enjoy a leisurely life abroad with your parents.”
Regarding the medicine to restore his body, Yusaku said he had already asked a friend working with Interpol to investigate the brewery.
“So, stop playing detective games!”
“No! I solve my own problems! Don’t interfere!” Conan refused bluntly. “Besides… I have a reason I can’t leave Japan!”
Laughter came from behind.
Turning around, Conan saw Inspector Kiichi Higashino holding a video camera.
“Inspector Higashino?” Conan was stunned. He could understand his parents and Professor Agasa, but why was this person involved?
Then a little girl slipped through the front door.
She removed her hat, revealing softly curled brown hair.
“Oh, so the ‘top secret’ of the voice-changing alien Detective Conan is that he uses chewing gum to open locks?” The girl’s tone was flat, yet to Conan’s ears, it sounded dripping with sarcasm.
“Who are you…” Conan rolled his eyes. These adults were already ridiculous enough—what was a little girl doing here?
“APTX 4869, the drug you were forced to take. The organization ordered me to come.”
