Chapter 15: The Man-Faced Demon Spider at the Door
The Radiant Phoenix was utterly shocked by the frenzied actions of these humans.
They were mad—truly mad—to believe that a soul master of the Soul Sect, even one at the Emperor level, could withstand the assault of a seventy-thousand-year-old soul beast!
Yet what stunned the Radiant Phoenix even more was that its attacks had failed to penetrate the golden light shield protecting them.
“Fifth soul skill: Sacred Sword…”
“Sixth soul skill: Angelic Roar…”
Qian Renxue swiftly unleashed two powerful soul skills in succession. The longsword, forged from sacred fire, struck the massive body of the Radiant Phoenix, while the purifying effect of the angelic soul power seeped into its form.
At the same time, the sixth soul skill, Angelic Roar, transformed Qian Renxue’s soul power into a spiritual shockwave, delivering a fierce mental assault on the Phoenix.
Inside, the Radiant Phoenix cursed bitterly. Its attacks had no effect on the enemy, yet their assaults could harm it. Even as a seventy-thousand-year-old soul beast, it simply could not endure this!
Seizing the moment of the Phoenix’s distraction, Qian Wenyu immediately unleashed her soul skill: “Celestial Phenomena.”
A colossal celestial star plunged from the sky, crashing onto the Radiant Phoenix, petrifying it into immobility.
Currently, the petrification effect of Qian Wenyu’s Celestial Phenomena lasted five seconds, which was more than enough for Qian Renxue. During those five seconds, the Phoenix had no defense. With Qian Renxue’s powerful attacks, putting the Phoenix down was assured.
After five seconds, the Radiant Phoenix lay on the ground, barely alive, tears of grief and fury streaming within.
Caught between two monsters, how could it stand a chance? It suspected it had been set up by some capital scheme!
Without hesitation, Qian Renxue delivered the final stroke to the Phoenix, then sat cross-legged to absorb the soul ring.
Qian Wenyu settled nearby, enhancing her focus to guard her sister.
Huliena exchanged a glance with her brother, Xie Yue, then gestured for the others to sit on the ground.
Truthfully, the fight had ended quickly. They had done little to help. Qian Wenyu’s absolute defense and petrification were simply unbeatable, and combined with Qian Renxue’s fierce offense, even an eighty-thousand-year-old soul beast would have been no match.
---
Looking up at Qian Renxue, the seventh soul ring, absorbed from a seventy-thousand-year-old soul ring, was acquired with surprising ease. Originally, the limit for the seventh soul ring was fifty thousand years; exceeding that was possible, but only by a narrow margin.
Huliena sighed faintly. She no longer felt any rivalry toward the Qian sisters. Their talent was simply monstrous, far beyond her reach.
As a saintess of the Martial Soul Hall, she had been following the standard soul ring acquisition schedule. Meanwhile, the sisters, with their formidable physical attributes, were absorbing soul rings well beyond their level.
She had thought of trying to absorb soul rings beyond the normal age limit, but surpassing it even by a year or two was her absolute limit. It was nothing compared to these sisters, who casually absorbed rings thousands or even tens of thousands of years old.
Perhaps the records of the Martial Soul Hall, and even the entire continent, were meant to be broken by these two.
Time passed bit by bit.
Qian Wenyu’s luck was indeed excellent. While Qian Renxue was absorbing the soul ring, a twenty-thousand-year-old humanoid demon spider stealthily approached.
This place had been the Radiant Phoenix’s nest; soul beasts younger than seventy thousand years dared not come near. Now that the Phoenix was slain by Qian Renxue, surrounding soul beasts grew restless, but the Phoenix’s lingering presence kept them at bay.
However, this twenty-thousand-year-old humanoid demon spider was an exception. Sensing the scent of human soul masters, it boldly crept forward.
As soon as the demon spider came close, Qian Wenyu noticed it.
Just when one is drowsy, a pillow is delivered—this demon spider had just handed over a soul ring on a silver platter.
Qian Wenyu hastened to cast a protective shield over Qian Renxue, shielding her from disturbance, then stood up, gripping her rock spear.
“Continue guarding Sister. Leave that humanoid demon spider to me,” she instructed, charging toward the creature.
Qian Wenyu darted straight at the demon spider, thrusting her sharp rock spear directly at its head.
Sensing danger, the spider raised two massive front legs to block the attack. The spear pierced both legs with a dull sound, leaving holes—testament to its sharpness.
The spider shrieked in pain, thrashing wildly and launching indiscriminate attacks.
Yet Qian Wenyu’s shield was unyielding; none of the attacks grazed her.
She immediately withdrew her spear, silver wings unfurling from her back as she took to the air, swiftly closing in on the demon spider again, her spear slashing repeatedly, leaving scars across its body.
“Celestial Phenomena,” Qian Wenyu uttered softly. A celestial star slammed down, inflicting heavy damage and petrifying the demon spider.
A slight smile graced Qian Wenyu’s lips. One star was not enough—then two it would be. Again, another celestial star crashed down.
This time, the demon spider’s aura weakened significantly. Seeing it nearly spent, Qian Wenyu transformed her rock spear into a celestial star, from which a golden longsword slowly materialized.
Gripping the golden sword, she swung it to strike the demon spider.
“Flap like the snowy wild goose… Stars extinguish…”
A crisp voice rang through the forest, followed by the sharp sound of the sword tearing through space. Before the demon spider, a crescent-shaped rift appeared.
The rift vanished quickly; the golden petrification light faded from the demon spider’s body, and its massive form collapsed with a thud.
Its eyes, now vacant, gazed up at the golden-haired girl descending beside it. The demon spider deeply regretted coming here. Had it known such terrifying humans awaited, it would never have ventured here. Its greed had cost it its life.
Qian Wenyu’s golden sword reverted to the rock spear. Her celestial stars could transform into any weapon form, but among them all, the rock spear felt most natural in her hands.
Approaching the demon spider, she did not kill it immediately. Instead, she grabbed one of its legs and dragged it toward the Radiant Phoenix’s nest.
Back at the nest, Qian Wenyu tossed the demon spider aside. Huliena and the others approached, showering her with unreserved praise.
Qian Wenyu accepted their compliments warmly, her radiant smile never fading.
Huliena said with a smile, “Junior sister, quickly absorb the soul ring. We’ll watch your back.”
“All right. But this place is near the heart of the Starry Forest, danger could come at any moment. I’ll call out Jiuyou,” Qian Wenyu replied, summoning the Azure Phoenix Jiuyou from the system space.
