Chapter Ten: Let Me Show You a Treasure
“Is it so wrong that I like wearing women's clothes?”
Xiat’s hateful expression suddenly froze. She opened her mouth but couldn’t manage a single retort; instead, the strangeness in her eyes deepened.
Not only a scoundrel, but perhaps a pervert as well?
Clutching the samurai sword, the cold metal brought a slight sense of security. She declined Remy’s aid and cautiously asked, “Why did you save me? That kind of medicine must be expensive.”
The undeniable fact was that she was alive, and he had even given her a knife for self-defense—could it be that he truly owed her his life?
“I want your body…”
“Scoundrel! Shameless! Don’t even dream about it!”
Xiat’s face turned cold as she covered her shapely figure with her clothes.
Indeed, a pervert. Any fleeting goodwill born from the possibility of being saved instantly vanished—completely and utterly.
“Tch… just wait, I’ll show you something special!”
Yelin spread his legs and fumbled around his waist, seemingly unlocking something.
Seeing this, despair welled up inside Xiat. Deep sorrow filled her eyes. So he really intended to make a move on her body—this lustful beast!
She gripped the sword tightly. The moment whatever he was undoing was revealed, she would summon every last ounce of strength to sever it. If she couldn’t, she’d stab herself in the abdomen to die. Even in disgrace, she would disgust him.
“Here, white high-top sneakers. Comfortable and soft, plus they boost movement speed by 5%. Why are you holding a sword?”
Yelin held up a pair of fashionable shoes, staring blankly at the samurai sword raised toward him. It seemed the target was himself. What was going on now?
“Uh…”
Xiat was embarrassed.
“How was I supposed to know the ‘special thing’ you mentioned was a pair of shoes…”
“Come on, this is the Forest of Gran. The nearest Elven defense line is at least two hours’ walk away at your current state, with thorns and stones everywhere. Don’t you want to keep your feet? Isn’t a good pair of shoes a treasure?”
“Could it be…”
Yelin raised an eyebrow, suddenly enlightened, wearing an expression that said, “I misjudged you.” He exclaimed, “You mean that? You’re so dirty-minded! Your soul is nothing like my pure one!”
“Go to hell, pervert!”
Xiat was about to lose her mind. How did she suddenly become the impure pervert in this back-and-forth?
She swore that if she had any strength left in her body, she would use her Cloud Piercing Sword technique to shred this guy to pieces.
“Tell me—why did you save me? Otherwise, I, Xiat, would rather die here. Let the goblins feast on my corpse than accept your help!”
Because of the transfer experiment and the empire’s manhunt, apart from a rash moment when she impulsively went to the Bilmark testing grounds, every step she took was extremely cautious.
She did not believe in kindness without reason. This could be a trap to lure her into staying alive, only to be captured again for experiments!
Yelin sighed helplessly. He could still read Xiat’s stubborn spirit—her caution and her anger.
“My goal is the same as yours: to beat Barn up. He’s the reason a little girl lost her grandfather.”
“Barn…”
Xiat murmured softly, “That transfer experiment—heartless Delos Empire forcibly conscripted the elderly, children, men, and women to graft power onto humans for a perfect transfer match. But only a few of us survived. Barn was one of the responsible parties. Poor girl, no wonder…”
The hostility in her eyes gradually faded. Gritting her teeth against the pain, she tore off her tattered black dress and put on the new outfit and shoes beside her.
“If I get the chance, I’ll repay you.”
“It’s not worth much. Just wear them.”
Xiat thought he was referring to the victims of the transfer experiment, unaware he meant the ninth apostle, old man Luke, and his sorcery assistant’s granddaughter, Becky.
“White… or maybe try the blue and white stripes? No matter how perfect a body is, it’s not beautiful if it’s covered in scars and blood… sigh.”
“Shameless!”
Having dressed and taken Remy’s aid, Xiat’s complexion visibly improved, no longer pale as a corpse.
“Luckily, you didn’t run into the heart of the Bilmark Empire. The contaminated Tera stones there could have killed you outright.”
Yelin praised her with a thumbs up. The female ghost sword wielder and the female gunner truly were fashion icons; their tall figures looked good in anything.
“How do you know so much?”
Xiat was incredulous. She had only dared to venture forth relying on past memories. How did this man know everything?
“I told you—I’m the thirteenth apostle.”
“Heh, the apostle who takes off stockings?”
“Forget it. I’m going to look for that magic-using cat demon here. What about you?”
Deep in the dark forest lurked a cursed cat demon that could cast curses and summon dark energy spheres, often causing trouble for adventurers.
If it could be slain, it would mean an immediate level-up.
“The cursed cat demon? I’ve seen it. It’s weaker than the bloodthirsty cat demon but smarter. When it saw me, it hid and even swallowed goblins…”
Xiat recalled.
“You’re a professional, right? A swordmaster?”
“Hmm…”
Following Xiat’s memory route, they crossed two rivers and passed through several thorny woods until they finally found the cursed cat demon in a peculiar spot.
Several towering ancient trees encircled the area, their thick branches and leaves blocking every ray of sunlight. The heavy, damp, and decaying stench filled the air, making one feel nauseous.
At the center of the giant trees lay a huge round wooden stump, upon which crouched a pitch-black cat demon. Scattered around were several humanoid bones.
Compared to the other brown cat demons nearby, the cursed cat demon was larger, its black claws gleaming with a poisonous light that inspired dread.
Xiat crouched behind a bush and whispered, “Wait a little longer. If I regain some strength, I can help you take down this beast and repay your kindness.”
“No need. The cursed cat demon’s specialty is curses. Remove the curse, and it’s just a big ordinary cat demon! Besides…”
Yelin targeted one of the ordinary brown cat demons and instantly activated the skill “Dominate”!
Forcibly conscripting a target to fight for you temporarily; success depends on level.
He chose the one closest to the cursed cat demon—and succeeded!
The dominated cat demon woke, staggered to its feet with unsteady steps.
A strong hunger surged from its belly. It wanted to eat, but the goblins were already gone, so its gaze turned to the sleeping leader nearby.
Tsk tsk, those stout limbs, that plump belly, that prime back…
Slurp~ swallowing saliva.
Howl!
Xiat stared blankly at the scene, and Yelin went out to clean up the mess, both utterly confused about what was happening.
How did the cursed cat demon’s underling suddenly launch a sneak attack and bite two holes in its neck?
“Upgraded after all, this skill is useful!”
