Chapter Four: The Yellow Dragon Token
Each tier of the Village Founding Order granted different base attributes; the higher the tier, the greater and better the bonuses. This was common knowledge among all players.
“I never expected to be the one to get this token, haha! I will definitely seize this chance. Everyone, just wait for me!”
Lin Mu was ninety percent confident that this was the legendary Divine-tier Village Founding Order.
Clutching the token in his hand, he heard the system notification ring in his ears: “Congratulations on obtaining the [Yellow Dragon Order]!” Although the message was brief, a tidal wave of shock surged through Lin Mu’s heart.
It wasn’t a Village Founding Order after all!
A huge wave of disappointment filled him, bitter beyond words—he had guessed wrong.
But judging from the name, it had to be extraordinary. The Yellow Dragon Order—was it a token to summon a divine dragon?
Holding the token felt like grasping a divine dragon soaring fiercely in the sky; his trembling hands reflected the awe surging within him.
“To summon a divine dragon must be incredible too. I shouldn’t be ungrateful…” Lin Mu thought to himself.
However, when he checked the attributes, he realized he was mistaken once more. This was still a Village Founding Order, only under a new name. His ignorance was to blame.
Name: [Yellow Dragon Order]
Rank: Divine-tier
Trait: Heart of the City, Unique Special Item
Special Attribute 1: [Blessing of Earth Virtue] (Inactive): The Yellow Dragon belongs to earth, symbolizing auspiciousness. It thrives from the dragon vein and requires it for birth. Territories with dragon veins are richly blessed and can become primary spiritual lands. The occupied territory must have a dragon vein to activate this attribute.
Special Attribute 2: [Cultural Glory] (Inactive): Bestowing grace and upholding virtue, practicing benevolence, bringing peace throughout the world.
Special Attribute 3: [Humanitarian Blessing] (Inactive): Spreading grace to all beings; everyone is like a dragon. Citizen qualifications increase by one tier upon registration.
Special Attribute 4: [Nuwa’s Compassion] (Inactive): The great goddess Nuwa watches over those who possess this, transforming them into nine-heaven dragons, traversing the world and gathering the energy of heaven and earth. The overall attribute of occupied resources increases by 100%.
In his previous life, his employer had spent countless resources trying to obtain this item. It was astonishingly miraculous.
It was many times more mystical than any territory attribute token Lin Mu had ever seen.
The secrets of the [Yellow Dragon Order] remained unclear to him and would require time to uncover.
Now caught in overwhelming joy, Lin Mu felt like he was on a roller coaster, his emotions rising and falling agonizingly, but thankfully ending on a high note.
He placed the token into his backpack and finally exhaled lightly.
Players’ backpacks had 6 by 6 slots, totaling 36 spaces, with a maximum stack size of 99 units. For example, each slot could hold 99 units of grain.
Staring at the dazzling [Yellow Dragon Order] shimmering within his backpack, Lin Mu was filled with excitement.
---
Yet, Lin Mu quickly suppressed his excitement; he was not yet completely safe.
He glanced around at the countless treasures, equipment, and supplies scattered about but dared not take any. If he delayed to pick these up and got caught by the returning Yinglong, losing the [Yellow Dragon Order] from his backpack would be a tragedy beyond tears.
More importantly, he feared those items might carry Yinglong’s aura. If Yinglong tracked that scent back to him, it would be catastrophic.
Checking the [Yellow Dragon Order]’s attributes once more, Lin Mu immediately turned and sprinted away. Although the description had been there for a long time, Lin Mu had barely spent half a minute in this place.
He needed to descend the mountain—immediately.
According to the map he had obtained in his previous life, Yinglong Valley had many access routes. But to avoid Yinglong and to reach the perfect spot for establishing his territory—Yinglong Valley itself—there was only one path to take.
He ran along the narrow trail without pause, pushing himself to his limits, as if wishing he had two extra legs.
Yinglong’s return would be swift; thirty seconds had already passed, and Lin Mu wasn’t sure if Yinglong always followed the same pattern, so caution was paramount.
He raced down the familiar path toward Yinglong Valley…
At this time, Yinglong was enormous, a colossal being blotting out the sun, soaring thousands of miles. Strangely, during Lin Mu’s previous battles, Yinglong seemed smaller and weaker, as if it had transformed into a different dragon. The reasons were unknown to him.
Yet, even that weaker Yinglong had required enormous manpower and resources to defeat.
Now, Yinglong was godlike, terrifyingly majestic, its presence dominating a thousand miles.
If it discovered that a mere mortal had stolen its token, Lin Mu didn’t know if Yinglong would swallow him whole or tear him to pieces.
With that thought, Lin Mu’s legs seemed to move faster, air rushing past him.
While running, he felt as if someone was watching him. Perhaps it was just a trick of the mind, but he chose to ignore it.
After nearly an hour of running, he looked around. The landscape remained unchanged—dense jungle and shrubs shrouded in mist, as if untouched by time. This scenery was common atop the massive Yinglong Peak.
Lin Mu knew he had traveled far, but the destination was still distant.
Suddenly, a vast shadow covered the mountain, engulfing Lin Mu’s figure.
He knew Yinglong had returned to its lair. Holding his breath, he concealed himself among the bushes, not daring to move an inch lest the immense form notice him.
To Yinglong, Lin Mu was as insignificant as an ant. He prayed silently that the creature would overlook him.
After what felt like an eternity, the shadow passed. Yinglong had apparently not found him.
Had it noticed, a single breath could have wiped him away—it was no exaggeration.
Composing himself, Lin Mu confirmed the [Yellow Dragon Order] was still safely in his backpack and set off once more, running even faster.
Although the map in Mythical Three Kingdoms had expanded many times over (40 long × 40 wide × 100 high), character speeds had also increased proportionally to accommodate the larger world.
At his current pace, it would take about two in-game days to descend the treacherous ten-thousand-meter-high peak.
---
Lin Mu had just left sight of the enormous lair. The road ahead was long and lonely.
After running for much of the day, dusk approached. Suddenly, a startling system world announcement rang in his ears:
“—World Announcement: Congratulations to Salid Rockefeller of the America region for establishing the world’s first village, [City of Angels]. Awarded the title ‘World’s First Village’ and granted a special reward: one Tier 4 Special Barracks! Salid Rockefeller’s personal level +3, fundamental attributes +3, reputation +300. We encourage all players to continue striving for glory and world domination!”
The announcement repeated three times, shaking the world.
Players everywhere reacted with awe, regret, or renewed determination. The game’s official forums must have been abuzz.
Lin Mu had no idea how Salid Rockefeller obtained the Village Founding Order, but it was surely through some extraordinary encounter. His own miracle did not negate others' chances.
In his previous life, this same player had built the first village, gaining vast reputation and system rewards.
The special reward—a Tier 4 Special Barracks—allowed recruitment and retraining of villagers into special troops, a tremendous advantage for early development.
To lead in military strength was essential, so Lin Mu could not afford to rest. His pace quickened.
Continuously running, he ate the system-given food without pause, unwilling to waste time even on meals.
Eating restored stamina, which running consumed. Although not fighting, running still drained energy, but with food, maintaining a three-day sprint was feasible.
Lin Mu made no comment on the announcement. His immediate priority was to reach Yinglong Valley, establish his village, and strive to be the world’s second village founder to obtain special rewards.
The Tier 4 Special Barracks was highly tempting, but with someone else having already claimed it, there was no room for regret—only resolve.
He still had about two days of travel ahead and kept encouraging himself silently.
No other players had appeared on the road. The wilds remained largely unexplored; new players typically spawned randomly in counties and towns. Only a few, like Lin Mu with special teleport tokens, could choose their spawn points, and they sought adventure for potential miracles.
Lin Mu knew many players had such encounters. Among the vast player base, many chose random spawns, and miracles were frequent.
In his previous life, he had seen posts on the official forums of players dropping into beast dens, clearing out nests, and striking it rich. Yet some special locations were inaccessible to random spawns.
Most players now stayed near counties and towns, where system buildings sold weapons and resources, and monsters could be slain for resource drops to sell for currency, allowing steady early progress.
He nostalgically recalled the hardship of the beginner days—beating wild oxen with wooden sticks—a difficult memory.
Due to laws of the Han Dynasty empire, players could not mine iron privately or forge weapons, and many lacked funds to buy weapons. Counting on rare monster drops was futile.
Only by founding villages and occupying resources could players craft weapons and armor; otherwise, they were limited to hunting small monsters.
Some players worked as miners in government-controlled iron mines and received weapons as rewards. Lin Mu knew of such missions.
However, having chosen to establish his territory in the wild, he could not enjoy these system conveniences and had to rely on his own efforts—but he was confident.
