Chapter 47: Like a Calamity

The night was as dark as ink.
It shrouded the snow-covered earth in profound darkness, while the snowy night brimmed with a chilling, murderous solemnity.
At the center of the spotlight, Su Yi stood sideways, one arm around Mu Xiaowei’s waist and the other holding his sword, facing an enemy force a hundred times his number.
The reinforcements had arrived far sooner than he had expected.
He was not intimidated by the scene, which looked as though it had come straight from a police thriller. Instead, his eyes swept constantly across his surroundings. He had issued Lolish the order to retreat early enough, and the girl had already withdrawn.
There were more than a hundred fully armed men surrounding him, carrying heavy weapons such as rocket launchers and sniper rifles. Two armed helicopters hovered overhead, and no one knew how many of the soldiers possessed supernatural abilities.
“Everyone on the other side, listen carefully! Do not harm the hostage. Put down your weapon, and you may still live!”
Someone from the special forces shouted at him.
The warning rang out again and again, while countless gun barrels remained trained on him.
Su Yi stood with his sword held at his side. Beneath his mask, his eyes slowly turned a vivid blood-red. After returning to Blue Star, the savagery he had suppressed for so long burst forth with each repeated warning. The blood that had remained calm for so long began to boil.
It was as though he had returned to the wasteland once more.
If that was how things were—
then let him see the might of Great Xia.
Su Yi’s gaze sharpened. He drew a deep breath, raised his hand, and rolled his wrist. The silver-white blade traced a crescent arc through the air before coming to rest horizontally before him.
The sword gleamed with icy brilliance. A vast amount of energy hidden within his body gathered around his heart. That tiny, faint white flame began to blaze, and his entire presence abruptly surged.
Under the moonlight, the silver-white blade was like a flawless mirror, reflecting the side of his face. White flames, more dazzling than the surrounding floodlights, coiled around his body.
The tip of the sword tapped lightly. Scorching flames danced and condensed along the blade, gradually turning into fine threads. Guided by his will, they curled through the air, forming spiral ripples.
In an instant, the ripples spread across the entire field, and the surrounding energy field erupted into chaos.
“Crack—crack—boom!”
The lighting equipment throughout the area began to flicker as though disrupted. In the blink of an eye, every lamp cover shattered. A large number of communications devices failed, and shards of glass scattered across the ground.
Even the helicopters overhead suddenly malfunctioned. It was as if they had encountered an electromagnetic storm. The instruments fought against one another, warning lights flashed without cease, and the special forces aboard, unable to determine what had happened, could only rely on their own skill to make emergency landings in the wasteland.
“What happened? Is this his ability?”
The soldiers present could not help wondering. After years of carrying out missions, they had never encountered anyone who could exert such terrifying pressure without even making a move.
Overwhelming killing intent descended upon everyone present. Even the battle-hardened special forces found it difficult to breathe. This level of pressure was nothing like facing a human being.
It was more akin to confronting an irresistible natural disaster, like a tsunami sweeping across the land.
Even the white-haired old man, who had previously worn a relaxed expression, now had beads of sweat on his forehead. His eyes were grave as he drew the treasured sword at his waist.
The atmosphere fell briefly silent. No one dared act rashly.
Until—
“Bang!”
Someone, unable to withstand the pressure, fired a shot with a trembling hand. The bullet tore from the chamber like a signal announcing the beginning of the battle.

The special forces members suddenly felt as though they had all been locked onto.
In each person’s ear, there seemed to be a demonic two-syllable whisper, as if someone were leaning close against the ear and sighing.
“Destruction.”
The voice and the black-clad, masked figure before them erupted at the same instant. The ground cracked beneath his step, splitting into enormous fissures. Countless afterimages seemed to emerge, attacking them at a speed beyond the reach of the human eye.
Blades carrying endless killing intent, blades that seemed to spell certain death, flashed toward their throats.
“Open fire!” roared Lie Chengzhuo, the commander, raising his hand.
Under such pressure, the special forces had no time to worry about whether they might harm the hostage. Flames burst from the gun muzzles, instantly setting the entire area outside the abandoned warehouse ablaze.
The white-haired old man stood at the front of the formation. He gathered the vital aura around his body, and red light began to glow at the tip of his sword as he prepared to fight to the death.
Just as the confrontation was about to erupt—
black cracks suddenly appeared in the air. Space seemed to be torn apart, accompanied by the sound of shattering glass.
“Ah—!”
Mu Xiaowei, tucked beneath Su Yi’s arm, clenched both hands and cried out. Stimulated by the killing intent, a dark violet radiance spread across her entire body.
The energy distorted the space around them. A tiny black point appeared at the center and rapidly expanded, swallowing every color within its reach.
A moment before the attack landed—
space twisted.
The terrifying black figure vanished together with the girl.
Silence descended once again. The scene that had just unfolded seemed almost like a nightmare.
“L-Li, Old Master Li... Did they escape?”
Staring at the place where the figures had disappeared, the special forces let out long breaths and gathered around the white-haired old man.
“They escaped. I sense no abnormal aura nearby.”
The white-haired old man rubbed his neck and returned his sword to its scabbard.
“Fortunately, that sword missed. That was truly frightening...”
“I thought we had encountered the Grim Reaper. What a pity that one of the students was still abducted.”
The soldiers murmured words of consolation to one another, and their voices spread through the formation.
But had that sword truly missed?
The white-haired old man turned to look behind him. Seeing his reaction, the special forces turned as well.
Only then did the shaken soldiers discover that the black SUV parked behind them had been cleanly severed through both its front and body.
The pine forest outside the warehouse had been felled in perfect unison by the shockwave of the sword.
Even the ground bore a deep fissure stretching dozens of meters. The sight alone was horrifying.

“Hm? Is this... my own doorstep?”
The moon shone brightly among sparse stars. Under the streetlamps, wind and snow drifted slowly down onto Su Yi.
He stared at the short, old-fashioned apartment building before him, its walls mottled with age, and was uncharacteristically startled. Only after repeatedly confirming that no one had followed them did he finally relax.
“Is this Xiaowei’s ability?”
He lowered his head to examine her and discovered that the girl in his arms had faintly quivering eyelashes. She had already lost consciousness, her body panting continuously as though utterly exhausted.
Su Yi had encountered space-type ability users before.
But he had never seen a teleportation so smooth, simple, and utterly devoid of disturbance.
Abilities that violated the fundamental law of equivalent exchange were inherently unstable. Manipulating space itself was extraordinarily dangerous.
Even the ability users he had encountered who could accomplish something similar were limited to partial teleportation. If the object was too large, or if it was a living thing, preparation time was required.
Moreover, even highly experienced space-type ability users, despite having bodies strengthened by supernatural powers, could still be easily injured by the turbulence of time and space.
Mu Xiaowei had only just awakened her ability and had not even learned to control it. Yet, relying solely on her body’s instincts, she had managed to use it with astonishing precision.
If she grew even stronger—
could she perhaps tear open space and travel directly to the wasteland?
His return to Blue Star had been a sudden and unexpected affair. Although more than two hundred years had passed in the wasteland, Su Yi still wanted to go back and take a look.
He had left without saying goodbye, and there were still many things he could not put out of his mind. According to the information he had learned from Lolish, the only person whose survival had been confirmed was Yifei.
Of course, for now, all of that remained nothing more than a fantasy. Using supernatural abilities consumed tremendous physical strength. Mu Xiaowei had fainted after traveling such a short distance; no one knew how many years it would take before she grew strong enough to tear open space and reach the wasteland.
Besides, he did not want Mu Xiaowei to practice her ability. Overusing it would make emotional control difficult and drive a person toward extremes.
Put simply, it damaged the brain. Excessive use was almost comparable to a certain general having his head caught in an elevator.
Still, being transported away by the ability had saved him considerable trouble. His and Mu Xiaowei’s disappearance could now be explained naturally. Even if they were investigated tomorrow, he could simply claim that the ability had affected them and transported them elsewhere.
However... Lolish did not seem to have been affected by the teleportation.
Su Yi lifted his eyes and scanned the surroundings, but there was no sign of the silver-haired girl. He had ordered her to retreat, and Lolish should not have tangled with those people for long.
He had made her memorize the route while they were in the car, but this was her first time traveling outside alone. He did not know whether she could find her way home.
Once Mu Xiaowei was settled, he would have to go and find her.
Looking at the girl, exhausted beyond measure, Su Yi made an uncharacteristic show of gentlemanliness and lifted her in his arms like a princess. The black robe and mask covering him withdrew of their own accord, like living creatures, transforming into viscous black liquid.
The liquid crawled down his cheeks and shoulders onto the long sword. Patterns took shape, and the image of a black rose emerged before transforming once more into a sword case.
Holding Mu Xiaowei, Su Yi arrived at the small apartment she rented. From its eternally unchanged hiding place beneath the carpet, he retrieved the spare key.
He turned the lock, opened the door, and strode inside without the slightest hesitation.
This was his first time visiting the place where Mu Xiaowei lived.
