Chapter 8: The Eye of Insight
Compared to his surprise at this unexpected talent and potential ceiling, Zhou Xu was not at all surprised that his leadership was currently rated only one star.
After all, he detested troublesome matters and disliked group activities even more. At school, whether it was the student council, class officer, or a small group leader tasked with something, he had always cleanly avoided them all.
Being dragged out to participate in the graduation trip was, in a sense, a trap, and now he felt thoroughly trapped—trapped to death, in the truest sense.
In such a state, it was only natural that his leadership ability remained untrained and stuck at one star.
As for this talent...
The so-called “Evolution Leader” talent—he understood every word in its description and could grasp the overall meaning when combined, but he had no idea what the actual practical effect of this talent was.
This situation gave him a headache.
In the end, he decided to set it aside and focus instead on the star rating panel.
“The star rating assessment surely doesn’t represent an exact figure; there must be specific ranges within each star level.”
“Right now, just looking at my own panel with no comparison, there’s no way to gauge anything precisely...”
While pondering this, Zhou Xu shifted his gaze to the other tribe members around him.
“Wait, could I see their panels before?”
With that thought, Zhou Xu immediately tried to manipulate with his mind, silently chanting “Open panel.”
Yet, after all that effort, there was no response at all.
This made Zhou Xu begin to doubt himself.
“Could it be that my posture is wrong?”
He experimented with opening and closing his own attribute panel and found it was simply a matter of a single thought.
Moreover, judging by the entire process, no one around him could see the panel’s existence except himself.
“Don’t rush... Think carefully, how exactly did I do it back then?”
Although his mind had been pretty chaotic when he was first summoned, not much time had passed, so he should still remember.
As he thought seriously, the scene immediately came back to him.
“The Eye of Insight?!”
Zhou Xu quickly opened his attribute panel again.
“The system notified me that I obtained the Eye of Insight. Could it be that only by using this Eye of Insight can I see other people’s panels? But how do I use this Eye of Insight?”
Almost simultaneously with this thought, strange characters appeared once again in his mind.
Zhou Xu was one hundred percent certain he did not recognize these strange characters, but as they appeared, he inexplicably understood their meanings.
At the same time, several ancient and difficult intonations escaped his lips.
And these intonations represented...
“The Eye of Insight.”
In an instant, Zhou Xu felt the entire world before his eyes sharpen clearly, and wherever he looked, panel windows popped up on the tribe members’ bodies.
This completely confirmed his previous guess.
“That’s right. Under normal circumstances, I can’t see others’ panels. To see them, I have to rely on this ‘Eye of Insight’ incantation.”
Having figured it out, Zhou Xu first looked at Fei Que beside him...
Name: Fei Que
Gender: Male
Age: 16
Race: Human
Status: Weak, Hungry
Incantation: None
Talent: Execution Specialist: If this is an order, I will carry it out! So please give the command!
Bravery: ★★☆
Intelligence: ★★☆
Spirit: ★★☆☆
Endurance: ★★☆☆
Leadership: ★☆☆☆
According to Zhou Xu’s reasoning and past gaming experience, any panel attribute with stars—five stars usually indicated a top-tier, legendary gold-level panel, and four stars at least signified a purple epic quality.
With this premise, Fei Que’s panel showed three attributes with a growth ceiling of four stars, which Zhou Xu personally understood as extremely impressive.
“Too bad the distribution of those four-star attributes isn’t very good. If even one point was taken from Spirit or Endurance and added to Bravery or Intelligence, Fei Que could be considered a four-star war god. But come to think of it, this attribute pattern aligns with Fei Que’s previous performance.”
Everyone else was already exhausted, but only Fei Que still had the strength to scout ahead and showed outstanding efficiency, which itself was a manifestation of strong Spirit and Endurance.
“The leadership ceiling is four stars, but currently only one star, probably because, like me, he hasn’t had the chance to train it. The Execution Specialist talent, though not clearly explained, is easy to understand.”
Putting other matters aside, at this stage, Zhou Xu indeed needed someone efficient in work, with enough leadership to lead a team.
This would absolutely become an effective aid for his development phase.
As for what lay beyond, that could wait—there was no point in overthinking now.
“I wonder how Dashan’s panel looks. But he’s out gathering firewood now, probably won’t be back for a while.”
With these thoughts, Zhou Xu shifted his gaze to the tribe members sitting around the fire, and while weaving a basket, he scanned all their panels.
During this process, Zhou Xu felt his head grow heavier and heavier, eventually starting to ache slightly.
He wasn’t stupid—he quickly guessed this was likely caused by the prolonged use of the Eye of Insight.
With no time to ponder further, he hurriedly deactivated the ability.
In that moment, he felt a clear relief, but the accumulated fatigue could not be erased.
His mind became muddled, as if a sticky paste had been stirred together, temporarily robbing him of his ability to think.
Exhaling a long breath, Zhou Xu, still dizzy, slowed his basket-weaving and closed his eyes to rest by the fire.
After some time, he slowly caught his breath and his mind cleared somewhat.
Among the tribe members, except for Fei Que at first, none of the panels dazzled him anymore.
Not a single one had multiple four-star attributes; not even one had a single four-star, and not one had a single three-star.
The rest of the tribe members all had five attributes at two stars.
This led Zhou Xu to a guess.
“If my inference is correct, two stars must be the normal level for ordinary people. Those with all five attributes at two stars are very ordinary—representing the vast majority in this world.”
“Following this logic, three stars would be considered excellent, four stars basically genius level, and five stars would be top-tier world-class existence...”
“Hiss—”
“By that standard, doesn’t that make me pretty damn awesome?!”
