Chapter 152: Cheng Xingye Didn’t Say He Wanted to Return It, Did He?
Jiangcheng soon entered winter.
Originally, Cheng Xingye had said he wanted to settle accounts with her, but this week he happened to be on a business trip abroad.
Without a boyfriend to cling to, Lu Qingyue obediently went home every weekend to chat and spend time with her parents.
Coincidentally, Lu Yi hadn’t gone out this week either.
Seeing her stay cooped up at home all day, as if witnessing something unusual, he raised an eyebrow and exclaimed in surprise, “Where’s your boyfriend?”
Lu Qingyue was sitting cross-legged on the sofa watching TV, stuffing strawberries into her mouth as she mumbled, “He’s on a business trip.”
“A business trip?”
Lu Yi knew that Cheng Xingye had recently been busy, likely preparing to inherit the family business, so he was often occupied and rarely returned to the dorm.
But a business trip lasting this long—could he be hiding a secret lover somewhere?
Seeing that Lu Qingyue paid no attention, Lu Yi scoffed dismissively and maliciously added, “Could it be that he’s with his new girlfriend?”
Lu Qingyue: “...”
She immediately puckered her lips in displeasure and said irritably, “Brother, I really think you’re the kind of person who can’t stand to see others happy. Have you been dumped recently?”
Just then, Lu Jiachen came out of the kitchen and overheard the siblings’ conversation.
He sat down on the sofa, glared at Lu Yi, and unconditionally took his daughter’s side.
“Your brother’s mouth really is something else.”
Lu Yi: “...”
Doesn’t everyone know who I inherited this sharp tongue from?!
Feeling bolstered by the support, Lu Qingyue straightened her back proudly.
“Exactly! A perfectly good man, but he just talks too much.”
Lu Yi was about to scold her for being disrespectful when Lu Jiachen suddenly asked her, “By the way, you and your boyfriend have been together for almost half a year now, right? When are you going to bring him home to meet me?”
Lu Qingyue was caught off guard; she hadn’t expected this topic to come up. Flustered, she tried to divert the conversation.
“My brother’s been dating for years already. Why don’t you pressure him?”
Pressure Lu Yi?
Lu Jiachen glanced at his son.
Lu Yi was sprawled lazily on the sofa, looking indifferent and rather untrustworthy.
Lu Jiachen’s mouth twitched slightly, then he sighed.
“He’s a guy; it’s different. If he ruins some girl’s life, someone will deal with him sooner or later. But you’re a girl—I need to make sure the guy who takes my little cabbage away is reliable.”
That description instantly displeased Lu Qingyue.
“Who are you calling little cabbage?!”
She had a father, mother, and brother—how could she be compared to a little vegetable in a field?!
But since Lu Jiachen had said it, she knew bringing the boyfriend home was only a matter of time.
Pouting, she thought of Cheng Xingye’s recent schedule and hesitated.
“He’s been really busy lately. I guess he won’t have time.”
She wasn’t trying to brush off Lu Jiachen; Cheng Xingye truly was swamped.
Between his graduate courses and managing family business affairs, he barely had time left for dating.
He had said he wanted to settle accounts with her, but after two weeks, he still hadn’t found the chance.
Lu Yi snorted mockingly nearby.
“Two girlfriends, of course he’s busy.”
As soon as he said that, Lu Qingyue glared at him angrily.
“Brother!”
Seeing her about to lose her temper, Lu Yi made a zipper-mouth gesture and shut up.
Used to the siblings’ bickering, Lu Jiachen didn’t mind. He urged her to bring the boyfriend home as soon as possible before heading back to his room.
Once the parent left, Lu Yi stretched his legs recklessly and kicked her.
Lu Qingyue was picking strawberries; the kick nearly made her drop them.
She looked up disgruntled. “What’s your problem?”
Lu Yi glanced upstairs, saw the parents’ door tightly shut, then leaned over and whispered, “Have you slept with him yet?”
Lu Qingyue felt her privacy invaded and raised an eyebrow speechlessly.
“Why are you asking that?”
Though their generation was open-minded and often discussed such topics with peers, talking about this with her own brother felt awkward.
Lu Yi didn’t find it strange at all. He casually eyed her and said bluntly, “If he’s slept with you, he better hurry up and buy some gifts to make up for it—and maybe show himself to his future father-in-law.”
Hearing this, Lu Qingyue relaxed.
But then she hesitated again.
“You say that like it’s certain who’s sleeping with whom!”
Lu Yi gave a teasing whistle. “Where’s your confidence?”
He scanned her from head to toe, then feigned sympathy and regret, muttering, “With your tiny frame... Cheng Xingye isn’t thinking about returning you, is he?”
Lu Qingyue: “...”
How dare he!
She was still intact!
Unwilling to concede, she deliberately puffed her chest.
But quickly the air went out of her sails.
The girl Lu Yi had brought around last time—her name was something like Rong Xin—she did have a pretty ample chest.
Could it be that boys were so shallow, only focused on a girl’s figure for superficial pleasure?
Thinking this, Lu Qingyue felt a chill in her heart. She abandoned her strawberries and dashed to the kitchen to find some papaya milk.
...
The days apart stretched for almost two weeks.
During those two weeks, they video-called every night. Lu Qingyue found out in advance that he would return on Christmas Day.
To surprise him, she didn’t tell him she was coming to pick him up at the airport.
After class and dinner that day, she slipped back to her dorm to put on light makeup and, with great care, changed into a matching set of lingerie before leaving.
Online, some said that if a girl’s underwear was matching when you get intimate, it meant you were the one being taken advantage of.
Lu Qingyue’s mind was racing with plans, and the trip to the airport wasn’t boring.
She scrolled through her phone, keeping an eye on the time. He was due to arrive around 8:30 p.m., and she calculated she’d arrive just in time to meet him.
Everything seemed perfect, completely under her control—until she suddenly stopped in her tracks at the airport arrival gate, seeing someone she didn’t expect.
“Auntie?”
