The cold wind rattled the branches, sending a rustling sound through the air, looping around the ward along with the beeping of the cardiac monitor.

Song Qingyou closed the door and walked over to sit in the chair beside the bed.

"Song Chen." She called his name softly.

Song Chen's injuries were too severe. He had just been wheeled out of the emergency room, his eyes still tightly shut, but his fingertips twitched slightly—perhaps he could hear her.

Song Qingyou coughed a few times before speaking in a low, faint voice: "I originally planned to let you go."

Her gaze at Song Chen was cold and indifferent. "Unfortunately, you didn't cherish that chance."

Perhaps sensing danger, Song Chen's fingertips twitched more violently. Or maybe the anesthesia had worn off. His eyes slowly opened a sliver, and when they fully opened and he saw Song Qingyou's face, his pupils dilated abruptly. Because he was intubated, all he could produce were muffled whimpers.

Song Qingyou's expression remained unchanged. The cold light overhead made her face seem all the more remote and ruthless.

At that moment, Song Qingyou stirred a deep terror in Song Chen. Even though that face was still alluring enough to bewitch the world, he saw in it an icy, murderous intent.

Song Chen's eyes were frantic, his mouth moving ceaselessly.

Song Qingyou gave him a faint, cold sidelong glance. "You want to ask why, don't you?"

Song Chen glared at her viciously, but with a hospital gown and tubes all over his body, he only looked utterly pitiful.

Song Qingyou slowly took out a pair of white gloves. Her hands were fair and slender—a truly beautiful pair of hands.

"Your mother came to our door and provoked us, and she drove my mother to her death. But you were just a child at the time, so I didn't plan to go after you." She spoke calmly as she pulled on the gloves. "When I was five, you locked me in a basement, and I developed claustrophobia. It took three years of therapy to cure it. Your sneers, your deliberate belittling, stealing my things, your self-righteous pranks—weren't those bullying too?"

Her voice slowly turned cold. A faint smile hung at the corner of her lips as she met Song Chen's eyes, which were full of hatred.

Her tone was casual: "Did you think I didn't know you liked me?"

Song Chen's eyes flew wide.

Song Qingyou's gaze was ice-cold. "Your liking makes me sick."

Song Chen suddenly thrashed, his eyes bloodshot, looking as though he wanted to devour her.

Song Qingyou finished putting on her gloves and slowly rose. "When you came out of the Jiang family's underground city, you could have lived peacefully. But you had to come and push my limits."

Song Chen suddenly realized what she meant to do. His struggles grew violently frantic, ignoring even the pain from his wounds, his eyes full of terror and red veins.

Song Qingyou's eyes were calm as still water. She took out a syringe, the slim needle drawing liquid slowly from a vial. "Don't be nervous. This won't kill you."

Song Chen watched helplessly as she injected the small dose into his IV drip. His eyes were crimson, his gaze brimming with murderous intent.

Song Qingyou stood there impassively, watching Song Chen gradually lose consciousness.

She glanced down at the time, set the syringe on the table, and turned to leave.

Song Chang was waiting outside. Seeing her emerge, he said in a low voice, "Li Ruo has been informed. She should be here in about ten minutes."

"Mm." Song Qingyou removed her gloves and asked idly, "Did you handle the surveillance footage?"

"It's handled. The footage of you going in has been erased." After a pause, Song Chang asked with a hint of concern, "Don't you worry that Li Ruo will notify Song Yuan?"

Song Qingyou let out a light laugh. "Do you know what matters most to a greedy person?"

Song Chang didn't understand.

Song Qingyou gave a soft scoff, drawing out the last word: "It's the chance to get an extra share of the inheritance."

With such a perfect opportunity, how could Li Ruo possibly let it go?

Song Chang understood at once. He followed behind Song Qingyou without another word.

Cold wind poured in through the window, and only the faint rustle of footsteps filled the corridor.

Song Qingyou didn't leave. She stood in the shadows on the stairwell and watched Li Ruo slip into the hospital room like a thief.

Li Ruo was greedy, dim-witted, short-sighted, and easily swayed by temptation.

Song Chen now lay on the hospital bed at death's door—this was the perfect chance to act. Besides, the person Li Ruo hated most in the Song family was Song Chen. When an opportunity was delivered right to her door, how could she resist?

Song Qingyou's eyes drooped slightly, her gaze following the second hand.

When the number stopped at 1, she slowly curled her lips and pressed the hospital alarm bell.

In an instant, the doctors and nurses on the floor all rushed out to find where the problem was.

Li Ruo had just pressed Song Chen's finger to sign the contract. Before she could even hide the documents in her hand, the door to the ward was shoved open from outside, and a crowd of doctors and nurses burst in.

Startled, she dropped the papers on the floor.

The doctor spotted the syringe on the table—not something that belonged to the hospital—then looked at Song Chen writhing in pain and immediately understood. "Call the police! Call the police now!"

Li Ruo waved her hands in panic. "No... I just made him sign a document. It wasn't me! Someone else gave me the documents. You've got it wrong. It really wasn't me..."

The vital signs monitor by Song Chen's bed alarmed again, and the doctor hurriedly rushed him into surgery.

Li Ruo was utterly panicked. She kept explaining, but no one listened.

Song Qingyou stood on the stairs, her expression gradually turning cold. After a long while, she slowly turned around.

Just then, the door of the ward was pushed open—"bang"—and the sound rang out.

Fu Wenzhou's chest was heaving violently. "This hospital is only this big, and you can't even find a single person?! All of you can get the hell out tomorrow!"

Song Qingyou's hand on the door latch paused. Taken aback by the commotion, she forgot to announce herself for a moment.

Fu Wenzhou caught her scent sharply. His expression shifted, and his gaze swept past the burly bodyguards toward the door.

His eyes lit up at once, and his tone dropped into something soft and gentle. "Youyou."

Song Qingyou closed the door, walked in, and set the food container on the table beside him. "Your wounds haven't healed yet. Why are you losing your temper?"

Fu Wenzhou looked wronged. "Where did you go?"

Song Qingyou opened the food container. "To buy you a meal."

Fu Wenzhou's gloom lifted at once. He looked like a big dog with bright, eager eyes. "Good. I'm hungry."

Song Qingyou hummed in acknowledgment, took out the porridge, sat beside him, and fed him with a spoon. "Open up."

Fu Wenzhou obediently opened his mouth. He took a bite, then frowned. "Carrots."

Song Qingyou smiled faintly, her voice softening as if coaxing a child. "Is it good?"

Fu Wenzhou spat out two words. "Horrible."

Song Qingyou said with all seriousness, "No picky eating."

"Oh." Fu Wenzhou swallowed the carrot with difficulty and continued eating bite by bite.

Gu Bai felt like he was the biggest fool here. His eyelids kept twitching, and he started wondering whether he should go find himself a girlfriend.

Song Qingyou finished feeding Fu Wenzhou the porridge, then turned to Gu Bai. "Sorry about that."

Gu Bai was startled for a second, then waved his hand. "No big deal. Anyway, we'll head back first."

Song Qingyou nodded.

Fu Wenzhou threw a pillow at him. "Get out."

Gu Bai: "..." How infuriating.

As the door opened, Fu Wenzhou seemed to hear the sound of a police siren.
