Chapter 122: What Am I to You?

The enormous conference room was so quiet that even the sound of a needle hitting the floor could be heard clearly.
Zhang Kai stared wide-eyed, wiped the cold sweat from his brow, and let out two awkward laughs. “President Fu, you... what exactly do you mean?”
Fu Wenzhou raised a brow, a faint smile curling at the corners of his lips. “I heard that your son partnered with some friends to establish a gaming company these past few years, and that it’s doing rather well. You must have invested quite a bit in it yourself.”
Zhang Kai immediately grew tense. Even someone of limited intelligence could see the blatant threat in those words. He turned toward Qin Tian, hoping to seek his help.
Qin Tian slammed his teacup onto the table and put on a stern expression. “Fu Wenzhou, everything should be handled reasonably. Song Qingyou stripped Song Group bare—do you have any idea how much that cost us shareholders? The internal conflict within the Song family dragged Song Group down. As shareholders, isn’t it only right for us to ask for a little more?”
“Reasonably?” Fu Wenzhou gave a soft snort, as if he found the idea amusing. “I’m sorry, but the thing I like least in this world is reason.”
Qin Tian’s face turned livid, yet he did not dare argue.
Fu Wenzhou leaned back lazily. “It’s obvious that you all have a particular fondness for the number fifty percent. In that case, why don’t we do this? My dear Qingyou will graciously acquire the shares you hold at a price fifty percent below market value.”
Qin Tian exploded with fury and shot to his feet. “What did you say? Fifty percent below market value? Fu Wenzhou, how is that any different from robbery?”
Song Qingyou cast him a cool glance. “President Qin, when you asked me for fifty percent above market value just now, how were you any different from a robber? Don’t laugh at someone for being fifty paces away when you’re only a hundred paces ahead.”
Qin Tian was shaking with anger. He pointed in the direction of Song Qingyou and Fu Wenzhou. “You! The two of you! This is outrageous!”
Fu Wenzhou sat there at his leisure, his tone frivolous. “Let me offer you all a word of advice. Once Song Group goes bankrupt, the shares in your hands will be worthless. I’ll give you two minutes to think it over. After that, the offer expires.”
Qin Tian was truly beginning to panic. He looked at Song Qingyou. “Miss Song, are you really going to stand by and watch the company your grandfather worked so hard to establish go bankrupt?”
“That’s nothing for you to worry about, President Qin. So what if Song Group falls? We can simply build another Song Group. But if the Qin Department Store chain under your control collapses, it will truly be gone.” Fu Wenzhou gave a cold laugh. “Who do you think you are, that you’re qualified to bargain with me? And just so you know, half of the two minutes has already passed.”
Qin Tian’s eyes locked onto Fu Wenzhou. The man’s eyes were curved with a smile, yet Qin Tian felt cold from head to toe.
He had no doubt about Fu Wenzhou’s capabilities. That madman was capable of anything. It seemed that he would have to sign the contract today, whether he wanted to or not.
Zhang Kai was the first to break. “I’ll sign. President Fu, I’ll sign.”
He did not dare stake his entire fortune against a rabid dog like Fu Wenzhou. Losing his shares in Song Group would mean no more than losing some money. But if his son’s company disappeared, everything would be over.

That madman was terrifying. Zhang Kai feared him from the bottom of his heart.
There had once been someone in their circle who offended him. The very next day, that person had vanished without a trace from the capital.
Sweat drenched Zhang Kai’s head. He would never dare gamble with his life.
The moment he spoke, the others began speaking one after another, as though they had not been the ones bullying Song Qingyou with such arrogance moments ago.
They all plastered smiles across their faces and pleaded with Fu Wenzhou to sign the contracts.
Qin Tian watched as everyone defected at the crucial moment, his face turning ashen.
Now that Fu Wenzhou had intervened, this was no longer something they could resolve themselves. Even if Fu Wenzhou had demanded eighty percent below market value today, they would still have had to sign.
“Uncle Chang, go prepare the contracts,” Fu Wenzhou said absentmindedly.
Song Chang responded at once and went out to print them. In less than ten minutes, he returned, handed the contracts to each person in turn, and watched them sign before leaving.
Fu Wenzhou even waved at them with great amusement. “See you around, everyone.”
Some cursed furiously inside, but when they turned around, their faces were filled with ingratiating smiles. “See you, President Fu.”
Only after everyone had left did Fu Wenzhou turn back. He stared directly at Song Qingyou. “Qingyou, what are you planning to do next?”
Song Qingyou pondered for a moment. “I’m planning to make a trip to River City.”
Fu Wenzhou frowned. “Why are you going to River City again?”
“I want to meet the president of SY.”
Fu Wenzhou’s eyelid twitched. He asked tentatively, “What are you going to see the president of SY for?”
Song Qingyou glanced at him. “To discuss financing. Without outside investment, Song Group won’t last a week. I want to use equity shares as leverage in a deal with him.”
Before she could finish, Fu Wenzhou abruptly rose to his feet, his voice turning cold. “Why are you looking for someone else instead of me? Your boyfriend is sitting right here, yet you’re going out of your way to seek help from afar. Do you think I’m not qualified to work with you, or do you think I’m incapable?”

Song Qingyou knitted her brows slightly. Instead of answering, she glanced at his leg. He had risen so suddenly—she wondered whether it had caused him any trouble.
“Are you fully recovered?”
Fu Wenzhou replied in a muffled voice, “It was only a flesh wound. It’s nothing serious. Qingyou, why didn’t you come to me?”
Song Qingyou explained, “I think SY’s business philosophy is closer to the reforms I plan to carry out at Song Group. SY is more suitable as my partner than the Fu Group.”
She thought Fu Wenzhou ought to understand that reasoning. From the perspective of business and long-term interests, working with SY was clearly more advantageous than working with the Fu Group. Surely he should have understood that.
But she was clearly mistaken.
The moment Fu Wenzhou heard her words, his expression darkened.
He stared into Song Qingyou’s eyes and tugged at the corner of his mouth. “I could solve this for you, yet you insist on going through all this trouble to handle it yourself. You’re always talking to me about rationality and objectivity. Is that what your rationality and objectivity mean? Whenever you run into trouble, you go to Young Master Yan or SY—but you refuse to come to your own boyfriend.”
Song Qingyou frowned and said nothing.
Fu Wenzhou’s gaze was deep, his voice low. “I’ll take care of the financing for Song Group. If you have nowhere to give those equity shares, give them to me. What’s mine is yours anyway. It makes no difference.”
He deliberately emphasized the final sentence, almost obsessively insisting on binding the two of them together.
Fu Wenzhou could not understand why she insisted on drawing such a clear line between love and work. Song Qingyou’s excessive rationality frightened him. It left him anxious and uneasy.
Song Qingyou looked at Fu Wenzhou for several seconds. Thinking of how he had rushed to the company despite his injury because he was afraid she would be bullied, her tone softened somewhat as she tried to reason with him.
“It’s not that I’m drawing a line between us. I simply think SY is more suitable—”
“The Fu Group can develop new industries. Whatever you want to do, I’ll support you. Funding, talent, projects—anything you want, I can provide.” Fu Wenzhou cut her off, his voice deep.
Song Qingyou frowned. “Fu Wenzhou, don’t be so willful. The Fu Group is rooted in traditional industry. Why would you change that? Developing an entirely new field isn’t something that can be accomplished in just one or two years. Can you stop being so naive?”
“Willful? Naive?” Fu Wenzhou was so angry that he nearly laughed. “Song Qingyou, is it really that difficult to make me your first choice? Have you never truly kept me in your heart?”
Song Qingyou’s fingers curled slightly, her skin pale and cold. “This is only a business partnership.”
Fu Wenzhou’s voice was hoarse. “I’m asking you one thing: what exactly am I to you?”
