Chapter 130: Don't Leave Me Hanging
Snowflakes drifted down in flurries; it seemed to be snowing throughout this entire winter.
Song Qingyou reached out to catch one, but it melted before it could even touch her palm.
"Miss Song, do you remember me? We met at the bar last night." Carrying a backpack, Xu Qingran walked up to Song Qingyou, her doe-like eyes widening as she looked at her.
Song Qingyou’s gaze was indifferent, and her voice was equally detached: "Is there something you need?"
Xu Qingran said with a hint of apology, "It’s like this—because I caused some unhappiness for you all yesterday, I wanted to come and apologize. I hope you don't mind what happened last night."
"Mm." Song Qingyou glanced at her coolly. "Anything else?"
Xu Qingran smiled shyly: "Could I add you on WeChat?"
After saying this, perhaps realizing she was being too abrupt, Xu Qingran added an explanation: "Everyone says we look alike. I feel like this is fate, so I wanted to get to know you."
Song Qingyou raised her eyes slightly, her expression cold: "Sorry, you cannot."
Song Chang drove the car over just then, separated from them by a few steps and a path over a meter wide. He parked the car and leaned over to grab an umbrella.
"Uncle Chang, it’s only a few steps, I can walk."
Song Qingyou lifted her feet and took a step forward.
The expected cold wind and snow did not hit her; an umbrella shielded her from above.
Song Qingyou turned her eyes slightly to look at the young girl who was struggling to stand on her tiptoes to hold the umbrella for her, with half of the girl’s body exposed to the snow.
Seeing that she was looking at her, the girl’s eyes curved: "I heard from Gu Bai that your health isn't very good and you shouldn't be out in the wind."
Song Qingyou maintained her indifferent gaze and turned away to get into the car.
The moment the car started, Song Qingyou said coldly: "Get in."
Xu Qingran was stunned for a moment, then immediately climbed in.
Afraid that the snow and moisture on her clothes would affect the delicate, sickly beauty, she curled up in the very corner. "Thank you. Please drop me off at the south gate of Qingbei University."
She had spent an hour and a half on the bus to get here. She had expected to return empty-handed, but she hadn't expected the other party to let her into the car.
The snow outside was too heavy; the buses would likely stop running soon.
Xu Qingran thought to herself that although this beauty looked very cold, she actually had a very soft heart.
Xu Qingran couldn't help but steal a few more glances at the beauty, who was still flipping through documents in the car.
She whispered a reminder: "Um... if you keep your head down like that for a long time, you'll get cervical spondylosis."
Song Qingyou’s fingertips paused, but she didn't look up, continuing to read the documents.
The air inside the car remained silent. Xu Qingran gathered her courage and spoke again: "Are you really not going to let me add you on WeChat?"
"You are very noisy," Song Qingyou said expressionlessly.
Xu Qingran closed her mouth. A while later, her lips moved again: "I quit my job at Nightfall. That place wasn't really suitable for me, and I’ve earned enough for my tuition, so I was thinking..."
"Clack."
Song Qingyou closed the file and glanced at her coldly: "I have no interest in your affairs. Besides, if I'm not mistaken, this is only the second time we’ve met, isn't it? Do you just report your personal life to every stranger you meet?"
Xu Qingran gripped her backpack tightly, her eyes like a frightened deer, their rims turning slightly red. "I... I didn't mean it like that. I just feel like you... I feel like you are very kind, and for some reason, I just wanted to..."
Xu Qingran didn't continue; she just lowered her head, like a child who had done something wrong.
Song Qingyou rubbed her temples and said to Song Chang: "Uncle Chang, speed up."
Song Chang accelerated.
For the rest of the journey, Xu Qingran was much quieter. Aside from the fact that her occasional, blatant stolen glances at Song Qingyou were too obvious to ignore, she didn't say another word.
After dropping her off, Song Chang made a U-turn and headed toward Yalin Villa.
Seeing the child standing alone at the intersection through the rearview mirror, still looking in their direction, he couldn't help but ask curiously: "Miss, since when did you know a student?"
Song Qingyou said blandly: "I don't."
Since she said she didn't know her, Song Chang didn't ask further, though he felt a vague sense of strangeness.
It was very late by the time they arrived home.
Fu Wenzhou had been guarding the door. Hearing the car, he opened it immediately. As soon as Song Qingyou stepped out, he pulled her into his arms.
"Why are you back so late? I've been waiting for ages, and the food has already gone cold."
Fu Wenzhou’s voice was low, laced with a hint of grievance and anxiety.
Song Qingyou wasn't short, but held in his arms, the size difference made her look like a tiny bundle.
She reached out and pushed him: "It's not like I don't have legs."
Fu Wenzhou didn't care about that. He murmured, "I haven't touched you all day. Do you know how hard that was for me?"
He didn't look like he was just saying it; he seemed genuinely distressed, his brows furrowed deeply.
Once inside, Fu Wenzhou finally let her go. Like someone presenting a treasure, he brought a stack of dishes out from the kitchen. "Youyou, I just learned these from the chef at Xu Zezhan’s house. Try them."
Song Qingyou sat down, letting Fu Wenzhou lift her hand and wipe it with a sanitizing wipe.
Sometimes she had to admit that dating Fu Wenzhou was worry-free; apart from his childish personality, he was more meticulous in everything else than anyone else.
Song Qingyou took a bite, and her eyes brightened.
Fu Wenzhou really had a talent for cooking.
She nodded: "It’s very delicious."
The corners of Fu Wenzhou’s mouth curled up, his tone lifting: "As long as you like it."
After dinner, the "little puppy" consciously went to the kitchen to wash the dishes. Ever since his leg injury healed enough for him to walk, he had dismissed the villa’s servants, keeping only a few bodyguards on watch.
He insisted on doing housework himself.
Fu Wenzhou was petty; he simply didn't like others touching Song Qingyou’s things. Everything concerning her had to be handled by his own hands.
Song Qingyou strolled slowly to the kitchen doorway, admiring the man’s fluid back and arm muscles, and suddenly said: "Fu Wenzhou, are you trying to spoil me so that I can never leave you again?"
Fu Wenzhou’s back stiffened, and he turned around in astonishment: "You figured that out?"
He had hidden his intentions so well!
Song Qingyou suppressed a laugh and said blandly: "You are truly devious."
Noticing that Song Qingyou seemed to be in a good mood, Fu Wenzhou asked: "Was there anything happy today?"
Song Qingyou thought for a moment: "I saw the girl you were chatting with that night. Does that count?"
Fu Wenzhou: "..."
He wiped the water off his hands, walked over, and hugged Song Qingyou, resting his head on her shoulder: "Sister, can we not talk about her?"
"Wait," Fu Wenzhou suddenly realized something and stood up straight: "Did she go to cause you trouble? What did she say to you? Don't listen to her; I really didn't do anything that night. I was completely innocent."
Song Qingyou reached out and touched the square diamond on his ear: "She said she wanted to add me on WeChat."
Fu Wenzhou narrowed his eyes, his warm body leaning in. The faint scent of tobacco drifted into Song Qingyou’s nose, and she frowned slightly: "You smoked again?"
"No." Fu Wenzhou’s voice dropped as he pinned her between himself and the wall: "Why don't you taste for yourself and find out?"
Song Qingyou was startled and reached out to push him away, but he easily pinned both her hands. He captured her lips, biting them lightly, looking as if he wanted to swallow her whole.
Song Qingyou thought: *Hmm, no smell of smoke.*
Fu Wenzhou thought: *Damn it! These days you have to guard against both men and women. I need to work harder, otherwise, my position is in jeopardy.*
At night, Fu Wenzhou held Song Qingyou from behind.
"Youyou," he called out.
Song Qingyou habitually leaned toward him: "Hmm?"
"In the future, if I do something wrong, you can tell me. Your little puppy will satisfy all his master’s requirements," Fu Wenzhou said, his lips brushing against the skin of her neck. The night made his eyes look very deep as he spoke slowly: "Stop giving me the cold shoulder."
Song Qingyou’s body stiffened slightly, all sleepiness vanished.
She heard Fu Wenzhou repeat behind her: "Sister, don't give me the cold shoulder."
He sounded both righteous and pitiful, and Song Qingyou couldn't help but soften.
Her throat felt a little tight; it took a while before she said: "Mm."
The arms holding her tightened, and a very low voice whispered in her ear:
"I love you, I love you so much..."
