Song Qingyou’s body was like a woven bamboo basket, frail from birth and battered by years of hardship, so shattered that any effort poured in was like water—impossible to retain. No matter how tightly news about Song Qingyou was kept under wraps, time would eventually let it slip through the cracks.

The happiest among the Song family was Song Wei; she had dreamed of Song Qingyou descending to hell sooner, and now, finally, she was dead. Song Yuan, upon hearing the news, spat out, “Serves her right.”

As for the Fu family, Lin Niaoniao was nearly jubilant enough to set off fireworks in celebration. Yet Fu Tingchen’s reaction left her uneasy.

They learned of the news at the dinner table. When Fu Tingchen heard the name Song Qingyou, he nearly dropped his chopsticks, hands trembling as he knocked over his bowl.

Lin Niaoniao watched his response and felt a surge of dread. “Tingchen, what’s wrong with you?”

Since Fu Tingchen’s divorce from Song Qingyou, he had cared more about her than ever before. Seeing him so tense, Lin Niaoniao couldn’t help but grow anxious herself, terrified he would go looking for Song Qingyou.

So she said, “Hey, Tingchen, I know you’re mindful of your former marriage—after all, a day as husband and wife is worth a hundred days of kindness. It’s only natural you’d worry about her, but didn’t she already get involved with Fu Wenzhou? Right now, I’m sure that loyal dog Fu Wenzhou is guarding her side.”

Fu Tingchen’s face twitched uncontrollably. He said nothing, rising abruptly and striding upstairs.

Lin Niaoniao flung her chopsticks down in frustration!

What she didn’t know was that she assumed Fu Tingchen couldn’t let go of Song Qingyou, when in fact, he was terrified his crimes would be exposed.

If anyone discovered he had bullied Song Qingyou, and if Song Qingyou died as a result, he would be an indirect murderer.

How could he not panic!

Late at night.

The hospital room was silent.

Fu Wenzhou jolted awake. “Qingyou!”

He scrambled in distress to find her, only relaxing when he saw Song Qingyou sleeping beside him.

Yet the nightmare lingered vividly—she lay bloodied on the ground, and he was trapped behind an invisible barrier, watching her struggle in despair under Fu Tingchen’s hands, unable to do anything.

The despair was suffocating.

He descended from the bed, took her hand as though it were the most precious treasure, and gently kissed her forehead. “Qingyou, don’t worry. Everyone who hurt you will pay the price.”

On the hospital bed, Song Qingyou remained quiet, as if she might open her eyes the next moment, glare at him for something he’d done wrong, and angrily call his name: “Fu Wenzhou!”

Fu Wenzhou smiled to himself, softly stroking her face, his voice tender. “Qingyou, don’t be afraid. Wherever you go, I’ll go with you.”

But before that, he would make Fu Tingchen understand the cost of touching someone he should never have touched.

Chen Shu arrived carrying a meal box, carefully preparing to open the door, only to have it open from the inside.

He was startled and delighted to see Fu Wenzhou before him, nearly moved to tears.

After so many days, this was the first time Fu Wenzhou had voluntarily stepped out of the hospital room.

Fu Wenzhou’s beard had been trimmed by a nurse yesterday. Though he looked a bit thinner and gloomier, he seemed much the same as before.

Yet the chilling aura around him made Chen Shu’s heart race in terror.

Fu Wenzhou seemed oblivious to Chen Shu’s expression, eyes falling on the meal box in his hands. “Is this for me?”

“Yes, yes.” Chen Shu was worried, but Fu Wenzhou appeared so calm that he had no choice but to suppress his concerns and set out the dishes one by one.

Fu Wenzhou ate quickly, then instructed Chen Shu, “Stay here and guard her without leaving her side. If she wakes up, notify me immediately.”

Chen Shu, seeing the murderous air about him, felt his scalp prickle. “Mr. Fu, you’d better watch over her yourself. I’m afraid Miss Song will be uncomfortable with my presence.”

At the mention of Song Qingyou, Fu Wenzhou’s eyes softened. “She’s very easygoing.”

As long as he lowered his posture and spoke gently, she would drop her guard.

This approach had never failed him, yet now, she seemed tired—no matter what he said, she only lay there, refusing to get up and look at him.

Chen Shu gazed at his bloodshot eyes, alarmed by the familiar danger brewing. He nervously grabbed Fu Wenzhou’s arm. “Mr. Fu, whatever it is, wait until Miss Song wakes up. I heard she doesn’t like you acting impulsively; you wouldn’t want her to worry, would you?”

Fu Wenzhou brushed his hand aside, his tone cold and laced with murderous intent. “I’m just going to teach someone a lesson for her. Not impulsive at all.”

With that, he vanished from Chen Shu’s sight.

Chen Shu, deeply uneasy, quickly sent messages to Gu Bai and the others.

Later, returning to the hospital room and seeing Song Qingyou unconscious, he was nearly in tears from anxiety. “Miss Song, please wake up. If you don’t, Mr. Fu really will do something drastic!”

Morning. Airport.

Lin Niaoniao, her belly swollen with pregnancy, hurried after Fu Tingchen, anxious and confused. “Tingchen, why are we suddenly going abroad? What about the company, what about Mom and Dad?”

Fu Tingchen strode toward the boarding gate as if he hadn’t heard her.

Seeing his indifference, Lin Niaoniao’s face twisted in resentment. Suddenly, she clutched her stomach and cried out in pain.

“Tingchen, my stomach hurts…” She didn’t want to go abroad—now that Song Qingyou was nearly dead, why leave at this moment?

Fu Tingchen had sent her away once before; was he planning to do it again?

She slumped to the floor, clutching her belly, repeatedly calling out to him.

Fu Tingchen returned with a dark expression, lifting her up impatiently. “Why does your stomach have to hurt at this moment? Go back yourself; I’m about to board.”

Lin Niaoniao stared at him in disbelief. “Tingchen! What’s wrong with you? What are you afraid of?”

Fu Tingchen, exasperated, raked a hand through his hair and was about to contact the hospital to fetch Lin Niaoniao when his assistant called.

“Mr. Fu, terrible news! I just got a call—your parents have been kidnapped, and the kidnappers demand you pay thirty million right now to ransom them!”

Lin Niaoniao heard this and anxiously grabbed Fu Tingchen’s arm, urging, “Tingchen, let’s go back. Those kidnappers are ruthless killers; if anything happens to your parents, we’ll never have peace. After rescuing them, we can go abroad later.”

She was counting on Fu Tingchen’s parents to help persuade him. She had finally climbed to the position of Mrs. Fu; she wouldn’t leave so easily!

Fu Tingchen cursed loudly, then hurried away from the boarding gate with Lin Niaoniao.

They arrived at the exit to see their familiar family car.

Fu Tingchen walked quickly, reaching it in a few strides.

But when the car door opened and Fu Wenzhou’s face appeared, Fu Tingchen spun around, trying to flee.

Two burly bodyguards, appearing out of nowhere, easily seized him and, before he could utter a word, shoved him into the car.

In front of him sat his mad dog of a nephew.

Fu Wenzhou’s thin lips curved into a faint smile, his gaze that of a death god seeking retribution. “Mr. Fu, trying to run away?”
