“Fu Wenzhou?” A clear voice suddenly rang out.

Fu Wenzhou didn’t even lift his eyes.

Ruan Yinyin, seeing that the man had no intention of responding, grew cold-faced. Two friends stood beside her; she’d lowered herself to seek out Fu Wenzhou, only to be completely ignored. The humiliation stung.

Gu Bai tried to smooth things over. “Yinyin, is your gaze only for Wenzhou? Can’t you see me and your Brother Zhan?”

Ruan Yinyin’s expression eased a little, and she forced a smile. “Second Master Gu, don’t tease me. Let me introduce my friends—this is Qi Yue and Zhou Qingqing.”

Qi Yue and Zhou Qingqing smiled shyly. “Second Master, Brother Zhan, Young Master Fu.”

Xu Zezhan and Gu Bai nodded in acknowledgment; only Fu Wenzhou sat with a stern face, not even glancing at the three beside him.

Ruan Yinyin swallowed her irritation, comforting herself that Fu Wenzhou had always had this damned temper—best not to take it to heart.

“Can we sit here?”

Xu Zezhan, always accommodating to beautiful women, answered readily, “Of course, it’s rare we gather.”

As they took their seats, Qi Yue and Zhou Qingqing settled onto the empty sofa across. Ruan Yinyin deliberately walked to Fu Wenzhou’s side, about to sit down, when a low, cold, utterly emotionless voice sounded beside her.

“Get away.”

Ruan Yinyin hadn’t even touched the sofa. She froze.

She’d grown up pampered, used to getting her way; almost all the grievances she’d suffered had come from Fu Wenzhou. Now, in front of so many people, he still treated her like this.

Furious, Ruan Yinyin snapped, “Fu Wenzhou! What’s your problem?”

Fu Wenzhou finally deigned to spare her a glance, turning his face slowly. “If your hearing is bad, get it fixed. Stop pestering me all day.”

Pestering? Ruan Yinyin’s eyes widened in disbelief. “Are you saying… I’m pestering you?”

Fu Wenzhou had never learned to spare women’s feelings, and now, irritable as he was, his words were even more blunt. “Stay away from me. Don’t you understand human speech?”

Ruan Yinyin’s face turned pale, then red, then blue with rage, unable to utter a word.

Xu Zezhan and Gu Bai wore awkward expressions. Ruan Yinyin’s status was special—she was the only daughter of the Ruan family. All their circle had indulged her since childhood. And she loved nothing more than trailing after Fu Wenzhou; the less he cared, the more determined she became.

She’d chased after him for years, until his harsh words finally made her back off for a while, but every time they met, she’d latch on again.

It was an annoyance even for Xu Zezhan and Gu Bai, but unlike Fu Wenzhou, they never spoke so harshly.

Gu Bai cleared his throat. “Yinyin, don’t mind him. Wenzhou’s just like that.”

Qi Yue and Zhou Qingqing blushed, each pulling at Ruan Yinyin’s arm and whispering, “Yinyin, maybe we should just leave?”

Their voices only made Ruan Yinyin feel more humiliated. Enraged, she spat, “Fu Wenzhou, you complain about me clinging to you, but how much better are you? Haven’t you been like a dog at Song Qingyou’s side all these years?”

Gu Bai’s face darkened instantly, his voice cold in warning. “Ruan Yinyin, food may be eaten carelessly, but words can’t be spoken carelessly.”

Ruan Yinyin sneered. “Am I wrong? Isn’t he just Song Qingyou’s dog? Song Qingyou waves him over, he runs, and when she’s tired of him, she tosses him aside!”

“Ruan Yinyin!” Xu Zezhan frowned, his voice stern. “You’re out of line.”

Fu Wenzhou lit a cigarette, slid it between his lips, eyes half-lidded as his gaze settled on Ruan Yinyin. A smile curved his mouth, but his eyes were as cold as December’s frost. “Ruan Yinyin, are you tired of living?”

Ruan Yinyin, coddled from birth, had never known fear, and kept talking. “Who are you trying to scare, Fu Wenzhou? So what if I call you a dog? Isn’t that what you are? You—ah!”

A sharp slap cracked through the air, drawing the attention of everyone nearby.

Ruan Yinyin stood frozen, palm pressed to her cheek, unable to believe she had just been struck.

The others were stunned as well—no one expected such a sudden turn.

Fu Wenzhou’s eyes were deep and shadowed as he stared at the slender figure before him, his Adam’s apple bobbing. “Qingyou…”

Ruan Yinyin stared in shock for several seconds before coming to her senses, furious. “Song Qingyou, you dare—”

“Slap!” Another blow landed before she could finish, this time bringing tears to her eyes.

Song Qingyou lifted her eyelids, gave Ruan Yinyin a cold, indifferent glance, her voice calm and clear as still water. “Who gave you permission to speak of him like that, hmm?”

Ruan Yinyin had never suffered such humiliation; tears slid from the corners of her eyes as she glared at Song Qingyou. “Song Qingyou, you dare hit me! The Ruan family will never let you off!”

With that, she turned and fled, losing all face—Ruan Yinyin couldn’t stand another moment.

Song Qingyou walked over to Fu Wenzhou, reached up to gently ruffle his dark hair.

She spoke softly, “Never tired.”

Never tired, and never tossing you aside.

Fu Wenzhou’s gaze grew darker still, his throat constricting, emotions surging in his eyes, unfathomable.

Xu Zezhan and Gu Bai exchanged glances.

So what Fu Wenzhou minded wasn’t being called a dog, but the suggestion that Song Qingyou would tire of him and abandon him?

Gu Bai couldn’t help but curse under his breath. “Damn!”
