Chapter 112: Crimson Fire Glazed Pill
Next, it was time to tally the treasures.
The Wolf King was in charge of counting the gold coins, while Qin Feiyang and Ling Yunfei took responsibility for the Universe Bags. There were medicinal herbs, weapons, pills, and all sorts of other items. The two men and the wolf were busy as bees.
"This jade is nice," Ling Yunfei said, tossing a piece of jade to Qin Feiyang.
Qin Feiyang caught it, gave it a cursory glance, and tossed it aside. The jade was square, about the size of an infant’s fist, and its surface was as smooth as a mirror. For an ordinary person, this piece of jade would be worth a fortune, enough to live on for a lifetime. But to him, it was merely average; even the paving stones in the Imperial Palace were better than this.
"Wait!"
Suddenly, he felt as if he had overlooked something. He picked up the jade again and examined it closely. Upon closer inspection, he discovered a clue: there was a tiny seam along all four sides of the jade. It was actually a jade box. Because the craftsmanship was so exquisite and the joints were so perfect, it was hard to notice at a glance.
Qin Feiyang gripped the top and bottom, applied a little pressure, and the piece that had appeared to be a solid whole split into two halves. At the same time, a rich medicinal fragrance wafted out.
"A pill!" Qin Feiyang’s eyes lit up. Inside the jade box lay a fiery red pill, looking like a cluster of flames at first glance.
"Huh?" Ling Yunfei and the Wolf King crowded around, their eyes filled with amazement.
"It looks familiar," Qin Feiyang muttered, struggling to recall. Suddenly, his eyes gleamed with delight. "This is the Scarlet Fire Glazed Pill!" He had seen it once in the Imperial Capital, though it had been so long that his memory had grown fuzzy.
"The Scarlet Fire Glazed Pill!" Ling Yunfei and the Wolf King were both shocked.
"It’s Brother Wolf’s!" the Wolf King roared, pouncing like lightning. With a flick of its tongue, the pill was gone.
The two men were stunned. "Spit it out!" They roared, lunging forward at the same time. Ling Yunfei pinned the Wolf King down while Qin Feiyang pried its jaws open.
"Don't bother, Brother Wolf has already swallowed it," the Wolf King’s mocking voice echoed in their minds.
"You bastard!" "You ungrateful wolf!" The two were furious, wanting nothing more than to strangle the beast.
"Heh heh, just wait, I'll see if I can poop it back out for you." The Wolf King raised its rear and let out a loud, stinky fart. The room was instantly filled with a foul stench.
Qin Feiyang jumped up, covering his nose, and shouted, "You son of a bitch, can you get any more shameless?" Ling Yunfei also pinched his nose, glaring angrily at the Wolf King.
"Who told you to keep holding onto Brother Wolf? How was it, fragrant? Want another one?" The Wolf King scrambled up, looking at them triumphantly.
"Get out!" Qin Feiyang’s face was dark, veins throbbing, yet he felt a sense of utter helplessness. Dealing with such a shameless bastard was impossible for anyone.
Just then, a powerful aura surged from the Wolf King’s body. Its size grew by another notch. Its three-meter-long frame was incredibly robust, its limbs thick and powerful, and its eyes shone brilliantly. Its snow-white fur was as smooth and lustrous as silk. Overall, it looked magnificent.
"Haha... Brother Wolf has broken through..." The Wolf King’s ecstatic laughter echoed in their minds. Qin Feiyang and Ling Yunfei exchanged glances, feeling both happy for the wolf and completely resigned. What was done was done.
The Wolf King looked at them and chuckled, "Alright, alright, don't be like that. I won't take any of the other treasures, how about that?"
Qin Feiyang rolled his eyes. He figured the Scarlet Fire Glazed Pill was the most precious item there anyway.
Ling Yunfei frowned and said, "The air in here is stagnant and it stinks too much; we can't keep counting. My mother must be worried, so let's pack everything up and organize it later when we have time."
"Agreed," Qin Feiyang nodded. The two immediately went to work, stuffing everything into the Universe Bags. Then, led by the Wolf King, they ran toward the exit.
"Ungrateful wolf, what is your strength equivalent to now, a few-star Martial Master?" Qin Feiyang asked on the way.
"Nine-star Martial Master," the Wolf King grinned.
"Are you kidding me? Why don't you just fly to the heavens?" Qin Feiyang nearly tripped and fell. This bastard hadn't just broken through; it had jumped several levels at once. How was anyone else supposed to live? If those so-called geniuses found out, wouldn't they be angry enough to slam their heads into a wall?
The Wolf King grew even more smug. After a while, it asked, "Little Qin, you have so many perfect martial arts techniques, are there any suitable for Brother Wolf?"
Qin Feiyang paused and said, "Let me think." As they walked, he considered it, but eventually shook his head. "None. I never expected to meet you, so I didn't pay attention to that. But don't worry, once we get to Yan City, I'll keep an eye out for you."
Beasts like the Wolf King that had gained intelligence and possessed high faculties could indeed practice martial arts. The Imperial Palace library did have techniques for beasts, but at the time, he had never considered becoming friends with one, so he hadn't bothered to look.
A few hundred breaths later, the three arrived at the exit. After sending the Wolf King into the ancient castle, the two leaped out and headed toward Spring Breeze Tower. When they entered, they were stunned. The hall, usually packed with guests, only had three people: Fatty, Jiang Wei, and Liu Zhi. Even if everyone had gone to the City Lord’s Mansion to watch the commotion, they should have been back by now.
Seeing them return, the three immediately hurried over. Liu Zhi asked anxiously, "Yunfei, why do you have so many wounds? Let Mother see."
Ling Yunfei felt a warmth in his heart and said, "Mother, I'm sorry to have worried you, but these are just minor injuries, nothing serious."
Liu Zhi urged, "You’re bleeding in several places and you say it's nothing?"
Ling Yunfei smiled, "I'm really fine. I’ll take a healing pill and I'll be better in a while. Mother, go sit over there; we have something to discuss."
"Is there anything Mother can't hear?" Liu Zhi looked displeased, but then smiled, "You're grown up now, having secrets is normal. Mother understands."
"I don't have any hidden agenda, I just didn't want you to worry," Ling Yunfei said with a bitter smile.
Liu Zhi reached out to wipe the rainwater from Ling Yunfei’s face and smiled, "Mother can see that, but I already know about what happened at the City Lord’s Mansion."
"You know?" Ling Yunfei was startled and glared at Fatty and Jiang Wei.
Jiang Wei waved his hands, "We didn't say anything."
Fatty rolled his eyes, "You two caused such a huge scene that the entire city was stirred up. It would be hard for your mother not to know."
"Oh!" Ling Yunfei was dumbfounded, his bitter smile deepening.
Qin Feiyang asked, "And what about this?"
Fatty chuckled, "We have a big spender here. After you left, he didn't say a word and booked the entire Spring Breeze Tower. That means we can party to our hearts' content tonight." Although no names were mentioned, only one person would engage in such extravagant behavior: Jiang Wei.
Qin Feiyang looked at Jiang Wei, "Has your father been here?"
Jiang Wei nodded, "Yes, he and the Grand Elder just left a short while ago."
Qin Feiyang continued, "And the head of the Mu family?"
"He's dead," Jiang Wei replied.
Qin Feiyang’s eyes flickered slightly, "If I’m not mistaken, your father and the Grand Elder went to the Mu family estate, right?"
"How did you know?" Jiang Wei was surprised, wondering if the man could read minds.
Qin Feiyang smiled without explaining. It wasn't hard to guess. The Mu family head had been in league with the City Lord, so the Mu family must be notorious. With the family head dead, it was undoubtedly the best time to eradicate them. The head of the Jiang family was a smart man and wouldn't miss such an opportunity. As for Luo Xiong and the others, they would surely turn a blind eye. This was partly due to the powerful figure behind the Jiang family, and partly because even if the Jiang family became the sole power, they were still just one family and couldn't threaten the three major forces: the Pill Hall, the Martial Hall, and the Treasure Pavilion.
"Alright, alright, the Fatty is starving. We can talk about business later," Fatty said impatiently, looking at them with disdain. "Waiter, bring the wine and food! Old Jiang, Young Ling, go wash up and change your clothes. You look worse than beggars."
"Arrogant?" Ling Yunfei raised an eyebrow and sneered, "If I don't drink you under the table tonight, my name isn't Ling!"
"Scared of you? Hurry up, don't keep me waiting," Fatty challenged.
That night, although there were only a few of them, laughter never ceased in the Spring Breeze Tower. Later, the head of the Jiang family and the Grand Elder arrived as well. As for the Mu family, it went without saying that they were erased from Black Bear City from that day on.
The next morning, the rain had stopped during the night. A morning sun slowly rose, signaling the arrival of a new day. Qin Feiyang pushed open the window, looked at the clear sky, and whispered, "Mother, your child is doing well now, don't worry."
He would soon be heading to Yan City. Although there was still a long road to the Imperial Capital and the journey would be fraught with danger, he would keep moving forward and never retreat.
"My head hurts." At that moment, Ling Yunfei walked into the room, rubbing his temples, the heavy scent of alcohol still clinging to him. Last night, he, Fatty, and Jiang Wei had all been drunk under the table, so they had stayed at the Spring Breeze Tower.
Walking up beside Qin Feiyang, Ling Yunfei looked outside and asked, "Did I make a fool of myself last night?"
Qin Feiyang laughed, "You nearly tore the tower down."
"That dead fatty, and Jiang Wei, how can they drink so much?" Ling Yunfei complained.
Qin Feiyang smiled and asked, "The Martial King Hall probably won't allow you to take your mother with you. What are your plans?"
Ling Yunfei said, "I've already thought it through. I'll let Mother stay at the Martial Hall for a while longer, and once I'm settled in Yan City, I'll bring her over. The Hall Master has already agreed."
Qin Feiyang nodded, "That's not bad. At least her safety is guaranteed. By the way, do you know why your mother was imprisoned now?"
"I know, Mother told me," Ling Yunfei nodded, a look of hatred flashing in his eyes.
Just then, a disciple from the Martial Hall ran in, panting, "Junior Brother Ling, why are you still here? Come back with me quickly, Senior Sister Ling'er is about to lose her temper."
"Ah!" Ling Yunfei was startled. He said to Qin Feiyang, "I'll tell you about that later, I have to go." With that, he turned and hurried away.
"Ling'er..." Qin Feiyang muttered, "I really hope I never have to see that woman again." He turned and left the room, calling for Fatty to return to the Pill Hall.
