Chapter 135: Robbing Money
It was already midnight.
When Little Ma came out into the villa’s main hall, several groups of bodyguards from different organizations wore strange expressions. But since Teresa was also waiting on the sofa outside, no one said a word. They all pretended not to notice him coming and going.
Teresa, who had been crossing her legs and drinking tea to stay awake, hurriedly rose when she saw him and glanced at her watch. “Shall I take you home?”
She had clearly been up to something, and had even egged Little Ma on into playing the villain. Still, because of her connection with Julia, he had to show her some consideration.
So Teresa’s awkwardness went unmentioned, and Little Ma did not bring it up either. He merely nodded and followed her out to an SUV.
Teresa was not driving. She simply accompanied Little Ma in the back seat—and, rather oddly, raised the partition.
It was deep into the night, still long before sunrise, when the roads were emptiest. The SUV sped along the coastal expressway.
Teresa’s expression was exceedingly strange, but she remained silent.
Only after they left the expressway and entered the city, forcing the car to slow down, did she speak for the first time.
“The matter concerning Mike Chen will have a result within three days at the latest.”
Little Ma had always found such matters a headache. That was precisely why he avoided the family.
Not knowing how to respond, he waved dismissively with an air of affected composure. “Don’t read too much into it. Don’t overdo things.”
He had thought Julia would have made it clear who was friend and who was foe. But after all that fuss, after Julia had been whining and grumbling for half the night, there was no result at all. Had it all just been for show, like making someone drink three cups of punishment wine?
Teresa was speechless, but it was inconvenient to say anything more.
As Teresa understood it, the Great Demon King had never wanted to reach out to the people behind Mike Chen. He was trying to maintain a balance.
From his point of view, that was perfectly normal. But it did not serve the interests of a professional troublemaker.
Then again, Teresa thought, anyone could tell at a glance that the incident involving the Sea God had also been orchestrated by the people behind Mike Chen. Yet Elsa had been unable to win the Great Demon King over either. The response had been much the same as this time: a counterattack, but a limited one.
“All right, the people behind Mike Chen are pretty wild.” Teresa smiled. “But overall, his mother is still quite decent. She does have a habit of hiding a knife behind her smile and acting familiar with everyone, but that’s related to her profession. Arresting Mike Chen this time is just a warning. His mother will come to visit soon enough.”
“Let it be,” Little Ma said, continuing to put on airs.
“Then I won’t say anything more. I only hope Julia doesn’t get taken advantage of by you again.” Teresa’s expression was complicated.
They had only slept together a few times. Surely that was good for her physical and mental health, wasn’t it? Little Ma thought shamelessly. How exactly had he taken advantage of her?
He had not expected that just a few words would create so many more problems. Thus, Little Ma arrived at a conclusion: the less he said, the better. These people were all sly old foxes who could exploit others without paying a cent. As the saying went, too much talk leads to trouble. Whenever necessary, one had to put on an act.
No wonder the Great Demon King thought they were too noisy and had run off to the quantum realm.
The car took him all the way to the mountain road. Before Little Ma got out, Teresa asked with a strange look, “Is there anything inconvenient for you to handle, or anything you don’t want others to know about, that you’d like me to take care of?”
Little Ma had no idea what she meant, but he did happen to have something. Seeing her look as though she had brought her own lunchbox and was eager to help, he hesitated.
Since she could be considered one of his own, there was no need to be overly polite. His old habit flared up again, and he asked rather shamelessly, “Do you have any cash?”
What?
Teresa was instantly dumbfounded.
But she soon understood what he meant. He needed money on hand, yet did not want to ask anyone else for it.
Teresa hurriedly searched herself, then emptied her briefcase and checked every wallet in the car. In the end, she timidly handed Little Ma a pitiful sum of just over thirty thousand.
Little Ma accepted it without hesitation.
This was not illegal robbery. Asking for a little cash had merely been a suggestion. They had chosen to give it to him themselves.
“If you don’t want to use an electronic transfer and need cash, I can make a few calls and have several million brought over. It should be here by tomorrow,” Teresa offered.
Little Ma felt that was far too weak. The last non-player character he had dealt with had transported money by truck.
He waved the idea away. “Forget it. The thirty thousand or so will do.”
“Anything else?” Teresa deliberately tried to keep the conversation going.
Little Ma thought for a moment, then said with an odd expression, “Could you arrange a set of identity documents for me?”
Teresa immediately replied, “Of course. I can’t promise I’ll do every other kind of thing well, but this is easy. What name do you want to use?”
“Ma Weimin,” Little Ma answered decisively.
“Okay. I’ll make a few calls. It should take several days.”
“You understand. I don’t want anyone else to know about this. They’re too noisy,” Little Ma added.
“Of course.”
Teresa nodded slightly, raised the glass partition, patted the seat, and drove away.
As she left, she thought to herself that Julia had once often said the same thing: the Great Demon King thought other people were too noisy.
It was three in the morning by the time Little Ma reached home.
Feng Chenchen was still energetically busy with her own affairs, looking remarkably lively.
As it happened, she had something to discuss with him. She gave him an ambiguous glance and subtly adjusted her posture to make herself more alluring.
But Little Ma did not come over. He headed straight upstairs, looking as though he intended to go to bed.
Feng Chenchen immediately felt a chill in her heart. That bastard had clearly gone out for some wild entertainment and returned thoroughly satisfied.
Thinking this, Feng Chenchen began playing the sentimental card. She came over, took his hand, and smiled. “Who brought you home so late? You should have called. I could have gone to pick you up.”
“No need to make such a fuss,” Little Ma replied.
She edged closer. “As for the preparations for the production, I want to make a trip to Britain.”
“No one’s stopping you. I may have put you in your place, but I never said you couldn’t go on a business trip.” Little Ma sounded strangely defensive.
“Oh, come on, you have to go with me. This is your debut, after all. If you don’t come, I won’t have much confidence traveling abroad alone. Those people stare at their prey with eyes shining like wolves. Do you really feel safe letting someone like me walk into a pack of wolves? And if I go alone, am I supposed to fly business class? I’d be too embarrassed to negotiate with them like that. You can say I’m vain, but this really matters, all right?”
So she wanted to go there and show off?
Little Ma understood her feelings perfectly. The problem was that he did not have a private business jet either.
Feng Chenchen continued, “I know you can’t conveniently contact your family, but Young Master Jiang has a private business jet. Back when I knew him, he often flew it to Spain. If you ask, he’ll definitely let you use it.”
Little Ma actually wanted to go out and have some fun with her. The problem was that he had to work. He did not even know whether Yu Chengmin would approve his leave.
Little Ma could survive by asking people for money, so he did not really need the job. But there was something oddly appealing about spending time with Yu Chengmin, that mature and imposing woman.
“All right. Let me think about it before I give you an answer,” Little Ma said.
Feng Chenchen began to wheedle. “I’m in a hurry. I want to leave today. We can’t delay.”
“If I say it can be delayed, then it can be delayed. Whoever invited you can wait. I need several days to deal with my own affairs.”
The fact that he had agreed at all was already quite good. After thinking it over, Feng Chenchen decided he had a point.
Of course, Feng Chenchen had no idea that the fellow was waiting for identity documents such as a passport. Asking Yu Chengmin for leave was only a secondary concern.
