Chapter 29 Push Me, Quickly
“We’ll talk about the rest later. For now, hide under the bed.”
Xiao Ma seemed confused again, as if he’d just realized this was an absurd idea. But when you care too much, you get flustered, and he couldn’t think of anything better at the moment.
Ni Feihong was not one to tolerate nonsense. She had personally blacklisted Feng Chenchen and caused a stir with her actions. With her temperament, if she saw Feng Chenchen here, things would only get messier. Xiao Ma didn’t depend on Ni Feihong for a living, but truth be told, any man would instinctively want to win the favor of someone like her.
This thought made Feng Chenchen a little excited, and also a bit aggrieved. She threw herself to the floor, intending to crawl under the bed, but got stuck halfway. “Hey, help me out. My butt’s too big and too perky, I’m stuck. Give me a push.”
“?”
Xiao Ma glanced over and was dumbfounded. Sure enough, she was wedged in—her upper body under the bed, but her hips and long legs sticking out.
Even if she was faking it, Xiao Ma didn’t mind doing this at all. He crouched down, grinning, studying the situation.
But he couldn’t find the right place to push. Did he push her backside, or somewhere else?
“Hurry up and push! Otherwise, if she finds me, you’ll be even more embarrassed,” Feng Chenchen urged in a soft whisper.
Resolute, Xiao Ma reached out, flattened her round behind a bit, and shoved her in.
Once she was hidden, Xiao Ma sat down, feigning calm.
Damn!
He realized, though, wasn’t he being an idiot again? Tao Zi knew Feng Chenchen was here—it wasn’t a secret.
All he could do was pray Tao Zi wouldn’t say anything.
A short while later, Ni Feihong’s footsteps approached and stopped right outside the door.
But this time, she didn’t barge in. She just called from outside, “I know you’re in there. Come out, I have something to ask you.”
Now that he had money and beautiful women orbiting him, Xiao Ma got cocky. “I’m not coming out. I need to rest.”
Outside the door, Ni Feihong was a bit deflated by this response and didn’t know what to say. After a moment, she reproached him, “Are you showing off again?”
“You don’t actually care about people. You know nothing about power,” Xiao Ma replied through the door.
“What exactly are you underestimating?”
Ni Feihong frowned outside, not understanding the mindset of a shut-in, but she could tell he was indeed showing off. Men showing off wasn’t a big deal, but Ni Feihong had her own principles and no patience to play along.
So she didn’t go in, just frowned and said, “At least open the door and let me see you. I want to make sure you’re in one piece. I’m genuinely worried about you, all right?”
“I’m fine. It was nothing, really. No need to worry. You’re a crazy woman—I won’t give you another chance to hire me, or you’ll just fire me again,” Xiao Ma said neurotically from inside.
“……”
Ni Feihong found herself at a loss. But hearing him ramble on, even though she didn’t know what happened in the warehouse, at least she was sure he was okay. Jiang Yaowen hadn’t lied.
With that, Ni Feihong was relieved, though she couldn’t help feeling a bit annoyed: Who do you think you are? I wasn’t coming to ask you out for dinner, just wanted to check in out of concern, that’s all. If you want to act tough, fine by me, just don’t regret it later.
Having made up her mind, Ni Feihong said, “Fine, as long as you’re happy. I didn’t want to see you anyway. I’m leaving. I won’t disturb your peaceful life, and you don’t bother me.”
She didn’t realize she was sulking.
But as she left, she thought again about some of this neurotic guy’s qualities. She remembered when he trusted her enough to seek help—his mindset and actions were honest and brave.
It wasn’t exactly heroic, but throughout the whole ordeal, he’d acted admirably, with a realness and composure better than most. That was her overall assessment of him.
Damn, she really left.
Xiao Ma opened the door to check—Ni Feihong was indeed gone. Unwilling to let it go, he followed her downstairs.
A timid voice came from under the bed: “Can I come out now?” But no one answered, leaving Feng Chenchen under the bed in a fit of frustration.
Xiao Ma went downstairs and, through the glass, watched Ni Feihong’s nearly perfect silhouette slowly recede. He felt a trace of loss.
Tao Zi was still downstairs, glancing at Xiao Ma with a complicated expression. She thought he was getting more impressive and more handsome by the day.
It was strange—before this, Tao Zi thought he was an idiot, and no matter how handsome, an idiot multiplied by zero was still zero.
But now it was different. The neurotic guy really had become impressive, surrounded by influential people for reasons she couldn’t understand.
So, his level of awesomeness multiplied by his handsomeness produced a terrifying result. This left Tao Zi feeling very awkward.
After hesitating a moment, Tao Zi asked cautiously, “Why was Feng Chenchen looking for you? She was in your room for ages—what were you two doing?”
Xiao Ma was feeling smug now, certain he’d left behind his loser days. He grinned, “Can’t say. That’s our secret.”
Tao Zi pouted but didn’t dare retort. She continued, “President Ni came here just for you. Why did you hide? Now you’ve annoyed her—she shot me a dirty look when she left, and I don’t even know what I did wrong.”
Loser.
Xiao Ma snorted, “I don’t know what to say to you. If you can’t handle things, that’s your own problem. She had a reason for that look—it wasn’t because I didn’t see her. Her logic may be odd, but she’s definitely not crazy.”
Tao Zi was unconvinced, but didn’t dare argue, so she changed the subject. “What exactly happened to us? Everything’s so confusing. Can you tell me?”
Xiao Ma laughed, “You know nothing about power, but that’s actually a good thing. If one day someone says, ‘You know too much,’ then trouble really starts. Since we’re roommates, take my advice: be steady. When you’re kind to others and open to the world, you’ll find your path widens, and the world isn’t so dangerous or awful. Always feeling wronged and blaming the world will only wear you out and make your road narrower.”
Tao Zi wasn’t convinced. Before, she’d have slapped him for saying that, but now, she didn’t want to argue.
At last, having shown off in front of Tao Zi, Xiao Ma headed back upstairs, only to hear a pitiful voice inside the room: “Please get me out of here, it’s so dark under the bed.”
So Xiao Ma went in and closed the door.
Getting her under the bed had been easy, but getting Feng Chenchen out took ages, leaving them both exhausted.
Afterwards, it felt awkward just sitting around in the bedroom, staring at each other. When she wasn’t acting up, Feng Chenchen was actually very considerate. She took Xiao Ma by the hand and smiled, “Come downstairs and have a drink with me?”
“Sure.”
Xiao Ma was a lightweight, but he was more than happy to oblige.
In reality, he was even worse than he thought. After just three beers, Xiao Ma was sprawled out on the floor, fast asleep.
Feng Chenchen was flabbergasted. For her, that amount of beer was nothing—she’d been hoping to create a bit of romantic tension and see what happened, but this guy just conked out.
Still, as an old hand, she found his naivete and sincerity rather endearing. When a woman compliments a man’s drinking ability, it’s always an insult—women actually prefer men who can’t hold their liquor at all.
Being a schemer, Feng Chenchen didn’t hesitate—she hoisted Xiao Ma onto her shoulders and lugged him back upstairs to the bedroom. Luckily, Xiao Ma was slender and not heavy; it was tough, but she managed.
Once inside, Feng Chenchen began to stage the scene, making the room look a bit messy. Then, like a director, she crossed her arms and surveyed the result.
It still felt like something was missing. She reached under her skirt, slipped off her pale yellow underwear, and tossed it further away.
Still not quite right. She picked up the underwear again and hung it on the lamp.
Now it looked just right—not enough to prove anything, but enough to suggest something had happened.
“Not bad, not bad,” Feng Chenchen muttered, feeling quite pleased, wondering if she had a future as a director—maybe this was her chance.
Satisfied, she climbed into Xiao Ma’s bed.
After a moment’s thought, she turned and sprawled out in a deliberately disheveled manner—just like the aftermath of a night of drinking.
Pleased with herself, she slowly drifted off to sleep…
