Volume 1, Chapter 142: Huo Xiaobei and Huo Cong Look So Much Alike
Deep in the night, all was quiet.
Huo Xiaobei and Huo Cong were fast asleep when the door was pushed open a crack, and a tall figure quietly approached.
A hand gently stroked the heads of Huo Xiaobei and Huo Cong. Huo Xiaobei half-wakingly opened his eyes and mumbled, "Second Uncle."
Ye Zhun replied, "Mm-hmm, go back to sleep."
Huo Xiaobei hugged Huo Cong and drifted off to sleep again.
With his hands behind his back, Ye Zhun stealthily tucked a few strands of hair into a sealed bag.
Just as he finished, another tall figure appeared at the door. Ye Zhun and Huo Lindong locked eyes right then and there.

The next morning, Huo Mingting arrived at Huo Lindong's place right on the dot.
He clearly hadn't slept well, dark circles bruised beneath his eyes. He gazed at Huo Cong in silence, his eyes baring an unmistakable wave of care and worry.
Ye Zhun stared at Huo Mingting for a few seconds before wordlessly pushing a bowl of white congee toward him.
Huo Mingting was startled for a moment, then muttered a word of thanks.
*The eldest brother-in-law is actually quite nice.*
Eating her bread, Ye Sheng quietly observed the dining table. For some reason, she felt the atmosphere was a bit off.
Huo Lindong placed a jar of jam in front of her, saying gently, "I'll take them for their check-ups today. You just focus on your work."
"It's fine. I only have a routine meeting this morning; I'll have Mia attend on my behalf."
Ye Sheng lifted the corners of her lips toward Huo Lindong, letting him know he didn't need to worry.
Huo Mingting glanced sideways at the two sitting together. They hadn't said anything out of the ordinary, yet it felt as though everything had been spoken... It gave him a different vibe than usual.
All morning, Ye Sheng accompanied the two fathers and the children through all the necessary medical examinations.
Huo Cong's condition was relatively stable, but Huo Xiaobei's state was not looking good.
The two children suffered from the same illness: chronic myeloid leukemia. Huo Cong had already undergone a bone marrow transplant two years ago, while Huo Xiaobei had not. At present, his condition had also progressed to this stage.
Huo Mingting took the two kids to Ye Sheng's office to drink some milk, while Ye Sheng and Huo Lindong went to her consultation room to talk.
Another doctor walked into the office, paused upon seeing the two little ones, greeted Huo Mingting, and asked with a smile, "Mr. Huo, are these your two sons? They look so much alike."
As soon as those words fell, Huo Mingting froze.
Huo Xiaobei and Huo Cong raised their heads simultaneously while holding their milk cartons. Huo Xiaobei cracked a small smile and nudged Huo Cong.
"Do you and I look alike?"
Huo Cong met Huo Xiaobei's eyes. He didn't look in the mirror often, and children had little concept of appearance, but he could still tell whether someone looked good or not.
"I guess so," Huo Cong said. "Neither of us looks bad."
Huo Xiaobei giggled. He thought so too.
He looked like his dad, and Huo Cong looked like his mom—both of them were extremely good-looking!
"..." Huo Mingting's gaze flickered back and forth between Huo Cong and Huo Xiaobei, his heart pounding wildly and stirring up massive ripples.
Previously, he hadn't thought the two little boys looked alike; he had only believed Huo Xiaobei genuinely resembled the Huo family.
The Huo family's genes were strong. Ever since he was born, everyone had said it was a skipped-generation inheritance, claiming he looked just like his great-grandfather, Elder Huo.
Quite a few people had even compared him to old photographs of Elder Huo, and the resemblance was indeed striking.
However, the person who looked most like Elder Huo was his youngest son, the Ninth Master, Huo Lindong.
In other words, he and Ninth Grandpa also shared a resemblance, so it wasn't strange for Huo Xiaobei and Huo Cong to look alike.
After all, they were both members of the Huo family, carrying the Huo family's blood in their veins.
Yet... the speaker had no intention, but the listener took it to heart.
After being pointed out by Ye Sheng's colleague, when Huo Mingting looked at Huo Xiaobei and Huo Cong again, something felt amiss.
The two boys were of a similar age, and even their illnesses were identical—how could there be so many coincidences?
Huo Mingting frowned, trying to sort out his thoughts, when his phone rang.
He answered the call, listened to what his assistant had to say, and his expression changed drastically.
Feng Yuhai was dead.
Chairman Qin was dead as well.
