Volume One, Chapter 61: Huo Mingting, Have You Ever Shown Me Mercy?
“I will divorce Ye Sheng and give you back the place that should have belonged to you. Min Shu, I still love you.”
The gentle timbre of Huo Mingting’s voice from her previous life still lingered in Ye Sheng’s ears; she could never forget the cold, indifferent look on his face when he proposed divorce. Because he loved Qin Min Shu, everything related to her was of utmost importance—even if Qin Min Shu hired online trolls to ruin Ye Sheng’s reputation, Huo Mingting considered it a trivial matter.
In the end, it was simply that the person “Ye Sheng” meant nothing at all to President Huo.
“Magnanimous?” Ye Sheng sneered, “President Huo, you truly have the compassion of a Buddha.”
Huo Mingting could easily detect the sarcasm in her voice.
What Qin Min Shu had done was indeed excessive, but… he still owed her a debt.
Two years ago, had Qin Min Shu not donated bone marrow to Huo Cong, how could their son be so healthy now?
As parents, both he and Ye Sheng owed Qin Min Shu this favor.
It could not go unreturned.
“Huo Mingting,” Ye Sheng suddenly called him by his full name, “have you ever shown me any tolerance?”
In their past life, he wouldn’t even let her explain.
She pleaded in a low voice, yet he never showed her the slightest warmth.
Now he demanded she forgive Qin Min Shu. Ye Sheng actually wanted, for her former self, to ask: she was stabbed to death on the operating table—who, then, should she forgive?
Huo Mingting was momentarily stunned.
What did Ye Sheng mean, as if it was he who insisted on the divorce back then?
Wasn’t it she who broke her marriage vows, became the betrayer and the deserter, and left their sick son to him alone?
The two people on either end of the phone fell into silence.
Qin Min Shu, listening nearby, sensed something was wrong. She was close enough to Huo Mingting to feel the change in his mood.
His hand gripping the phone was tight; he seemed both angry and concerned.
This unusual reaction twisted Qin Min Shu’s heart with anxiety.
She could not let them continue talking like this!
“Mingting!” Qin Min Shu clung to Huo Mingting’s arm, deliberately speaking toward the receiver, “If she really won’t settle privately, so be it. I’ll see this through to the end; after all, everyone will be embarrassed.”
Huo Mingting gently pushed her away, refusing to let her stir up trouble, and walked toward the floor-to-ceiling window with his phone.
“Ye Sheng, you and Min Shu are both doctors at Haici Hospital. If this matter blows up, it will inevitably affect the hospital’s reputation.” Huo Mingting adopted a business negotiation tone, hoping Ye Sheng would remain rational and not let her emotions cloud her judgment. “Name your terms, let’s discuss this calmly.”
Ye Sheng was not afraid of how big this matter could get; in fact, she wanted to use this incident to draw out the hawk-eyed man.
If the hawk-eyed man was someone close to Qin Min Shu, then he would surely appear to help her when she was in trouble.
Ye Sheng proposed a condition—
She would not pursue the lawsuit, but Qin Min Shu must publicly apologize to her at the hospital’s general meeting.
Huo Mingting agreed.
Qin Min Shu refused.
“Why should I apologize to her?” With Huo Mingting backing her, Qin Min Shu’s confidence rose. “Who does she think she is? Just a department director—she’s nothing compared to the hospital president. President Ji has to humble himself before you for investment. Ye Sheng only acts superior because she was once married to you and is Huo Cong’s mother—that’s the only reason she dares to put on airs with me!”
The more she spoke, the darker Huo Mingting’s expression became. “Are you finished?”
He stared at her, his eyes cold and emotionless, his fingers tapping the desk.
“You know Ye Sheng is now a director; she’s your superior. Not only do you disregard her, you also undermine her behind her back. Min Shu, this matter is settled—it’s your fault. If it were someone else, you wouldn’t be let off so easily.”
Qin Min Shu pouted; she couldn’t stand Huo Mingting siding with Ye Sheng.
“What’s so impressive about her? She only got to be director because of her connections with President Ji—a backdoor appointment, nothing more.”
Huo Mingting looked at her icily.
Qin Min Shu’s heart skipped a beat, suddenly recalling that she herself was admitted to Haici Hospital thanks to Huo Mingting pulling strings for her…
“Mingting…” Realizing she’d said the wrong thing, Qin Min Shu softened her tone.
After all the commotion, Huo Mingting’s patience had been worn thin.
“I’ve negotiated the terms for you; whether you accept them is your choice. As for your job at Haici Hospital, since you find it so taxing, you needn’t return. I’m tired of receiving complaints about you every few days.”
Seeing Huo Mingting’s cold face and his refusal to engage further, Qin Min Shu restrained her temper. “I’ll do whatever you say.”
But to publicly apologize to Ye Sheng—to bow her head to her—never!
—
Qin Min Shu went to the president’s office and handed in her resignation letter. “President, this is the biggest concession I can offer. If Ye Sheng still refuses to settle, then the Huo Group will have no choice but to terminate its partnership with Haici Hospital.”
Faced with this blatant threat, President Ji raised an eyebrow. “Oh? Is this President Huo’s decision?”
“What do you think?” Qin Min Shu sat across from him, full of arrogance. “My decision is naturally President Huo’s decision.”
President Ji smiled and asked, “Miss Qin, are you now Mrs. Huo? When did this happy event happen? You never informed us—I haven’t even had a sip of wedding wine.”
Qin Min Shu’s expression changed; she adjusted her posture. “It’s only a matter of time.”
“Then let’s wait for ‘a matter of time’ to discuss it.” President Ji sipped his tea, took the resignation letter, and said, “I’ll keep this. Take care, I won’t see you out.”
Qin Min Shu stood abruptly, aggrieved. “Senior, are you really protecting Ye Sheng like this?”
“Hey, don’t call me that.” President Ji waved his hand. “I graduated many years before you; by seniority, I was classmates with your mentor. ‘Senior’ is what Ye Sheng calls me—you should call me ‘Uncle.’”
Qin Min Shu left in a huff.
Upon hearing that Qin Min Shu had caused a scene in the president’s office, Ye Sheng checked the time and made a phone call.
“Brother, I need a favor.”
Ye Zhun was eating. “Speak.”
Ye Sheng explained the current situation at Haici Hospital. Halfway through, Ye Zhun interrupted, “Cut the chatter, get to the point.”
“…I want Huatai Pharmaceuticals to establish a long-term partnership with Haici Hospital.”
Ye Zhun replied, “Got it.”
