Chapter Eighty-Eight: Black Fog
Inside the bamboo grove, it was no longer as peaceful as before.
Bamboo leaves swayed, rustling softly.
A woman sat before the door of a bamboo house, weaving cloth.
She was lovely of face, dressed in a plain white gown, her glossy black hair falling over her shoulders, her skin fair and tender, as delicate as if it might break at a breath.
She was a beauty of peerless countenance, graceful and dignified, with an extraordinary bearing, like a painting come to life.
She seemed not to notice at all that the battle here had reached her.
But Colinco no longer had that much time. To wait for the world to develop fully on its own would take ages measured in hundreds of millions of years.
"It is not that Huyan Zhuo is refusing out of courtesy; it is simply that my heart and strength are no longer sufficient to command the army, and I fear I would delay Lord Li's great undertaking," Huyan Zhuo continued to decline.
After the group arrived on Golden Sand Beach, it was less than half an hour before the silhouettes of the naval warships appeared in their line of sight.
"Take these two buns and go. There's still quite a way from here, and I figure you haven't eaten your fill either. Eat a bit more and get full first. After all, who knows whether we'll be able to have lunch on time?" Qian Xing said, glancing at Chu Yu.
The Bosha Causeway below, split in two by Olivia, suddenly exploded apart, shattering into countless stones.
None of the people in Worry-Free City were stained with blood; most lay peacefully on the ground, with no trace of pain between their brows. Yet they had truly left this world, and as a cultivator she could clearly sense the yin energy lingering through the city, dense and unbroken.
Zhu Youning took in everyone's expressions, but unlike Si Mo, Bai Ling, and Dou Wanwan behind her, she was not nearly so indignant; even her voice remained calm and low.
Turning back, Zhao Xun stepped forward one pace at a time, forcing down the fear in his heart as he slowly made his way toward the direction from which the screams were coming.
This was far too strange. Had not a single earth-grade power risen to heaven-grade strength in all that time?
"What else could I do?" Lu Wan's eyes held a trace of helplessness. She had originally wanted to stay quietly in the Hall of the Revered Gods, but she feared Chu Feng might really do something to her, so she followed him back to the Demon God World. As for Zhang Yuner's question, she did not know how else to answer it.
Crouching atop the male leopard beast, Purple Night showed not the slightest hesitation or doubt, as if everything had come so naturally, so inevitably.
Throughout history, one had only ever heard of the weaker side attaching itself to the stronger one. Since when had the stronger side been required to belong to the weaker?
Jue Xin and the others knew that Chang'e was invoking the Great Art of Fate, so they lowered their heads and withdrew a little farther.
"You've already said enough." The male ghost no longer answered my question. My vision went dark, and he suddenly appeared right in front of me, driving a punch into my stomach.
"Shen Yunli! This is far too dangerous! You'll go down with him!" Watching the man's stubbornness, Murong Yan could not help but grow afraid, and anger rose in her as well. Right now, Mo Ran's life and death were still unknown, but no one could guarantee that the next person to fall would not be Shen Yunli.
I'm sorry, Mom and Dad. I never had the chance to repay your kindness, and now I have let you suffer the grief of losing your black-haired child before your hair turned white. I'm sorry, Liu Yanyan. I never had the chance to give you happiness, or to stay with you for a lifetime, and now I have left you widowed.
Though she had not spent much time in Yelong, if beastmen really existed there, it would have been impossible for her not to have heard a single rumor.
Somehow, when Mayumi saw the two people in the distance chatting, the anxiety she had felt vanished without a trace, and instead she almost felt as though she were watching a brother-in-law and sister-in-law together.
Using the thick cloud layer as cover, Yun Shan began to explain how Sheng Ang had been ambushed, as well as the plans of the mysterious force backing Yi Wuxue, hoping that Wang Zifeng would be sure to pass this intelligence on to the God Realm and make certain that the God Realm did not mobilize a great army to attack the Alliance of All Under Heaven, which would only play straight into the hidden enemy's hands.
