Chapter 149: The Harvest Festival!
Legend of Mages: Uncut Edition
One of the three Zombie Kings burst apart with a loud bang, unleashing yet another earth-shaking, 8x8 massive loot explosion!
Lin Jia was suffering yet ecstatic. The Zombie King that had wedged its way through the gap was practically close to shredding the Magic Robe right off his back! Meanwhile, the items scattered across the ground were already far too much for his tiny inventory to hold. What a painful yet agonizingly blissful dilemma this was for players of Legend!
"Are you guys here yet?!" Lin Jia asked anxiously, not even daring to raise his head, shouting to Lao Si beside him. Lao Si roared back, "We've arrived! But there's no pit on the ground, so we can't get in!!"
"What the heck!" Lin Jia felt his head spin. The hole dug by the previous zombie must have been refreshed by the system; they would have to wait for a new zombie to dig its way out before anyone could enter!
With no hope left for Boss and Lao Si, Lin Jia had no choice but to continue fighting a lone battle. His fingers, frantically pounding the shortcut keys, were beginning to ache from excessive tension and force. The injury on his knuckles wasn't fully healed yet, and his right wrist was swelling and throbbing from rigidly gripping the mouse.
While Lin Jia had been too busy to deal with it, the Zombie King had used its iron chain to subject him to a brutal S&M routine right against his body. Now that he had finally taken down one Zombie King, Lin Jia turned this survivor into the vent for all his pent-up rage. He first dropped a Wall of Fire right beneath his feet, then began madly gulping down Sun Water, trading blows in a do-or-die standoff where only one of them would leave alive!
Lin Jia's inventory of Almighty Water had run completely dry, and the potions on the ground beneath his feet had almost all been picked up. If the Zombie King didn't drop before his Sun Water supplies were exhausted, Lin Jia would be forced to abandon his plan of hiding in this corner to slowly chip away at the monster and switch to a hit-and-run strategy. Once he resorted to using a Random Teleport Scroll, there was a high probability he would be instantly materialized right into the middle of the remaining pack of Zombie Kings and killed in seconds.
Having heavily consumed Healing Potions while consciously trying to conserve his Sun Water, Lin Jia found his hands trembling and his heart racing at 160 beats per minute. His brain was spinning with frantic thoughts: he didn't even know yet if Random Teleport Scrolls could be used inside the Zombie King Tomb. If this place was like the Woma 3rd Floor Lord's Chamber where scrolls were disabled, would he have enough time to unleash all four of his Level 7 Black Evil Maggots and fight to the death?
Or would his hand speed, impaired by his injury, fail to replenish his potions in time before he had to escape the pincer attack of two Zombie Kings?
There was no time to hesitate. After double-clicking his very last Strong Sun Water, Lin Jia rapidly closed his inventory. Then, pressing Ctrl+A, he unleashed all four of his summoned pets. Just as he was about to make his escape, Lin Jia suddenly saw a player materialize right in front of his eyes with a sharp "Whoosh!"
The sudden change scared Lin Jia so badly he nearly suffered a cardiac arrest on the spot!
Before he could even react and make out the player's name, that player vanished with another "Whoosh!" Immediately following that, Lao Si beside him suddenly bounced up and roared with a string of curses: "Damn it! How the hell did I end up in the Southern Mine!!??"
Distracted by this interruption, Lin Jia's hand slowed down by a fraction of a second, and he was struck by the iron chains of both Zombie Kings simultaneously. His health bar instantly plunged to zero! At that exact moment, another figure flashed in, only to vanish just as quickly!
What on earth was going on?!
Lin Jia had no time to ponder. Taking a single step forward, he went wild clicking his right mouse button on the ground while his left-hand fingers frantically hammered the 1, 2, 3, and 4 shortcut keys. He didn't care what he was picking up—eating first came second to survival!
Fortunately, Legend had a system setting where picked-up potions were prioritized to replenish the shortcut slots. Otherwise, no matter how fast his hand speed was, Lin Jia would never have had the time to open his inventory, locate the Sun Water among the chaotic pile of equipment, and double-click to consume it. Having seemingly pressed the keys for several vials of Sun Water at once, Lin Jia's health bar instantly maxed out. Breathing a sigh of relief, and ignoring the Zombie King still attacking him, Lin Jia immediately set to frantically scavenging the potions scattered on the ground, praying for more Sun Water.
His four released Level 7 pets finally came into play. Three of them swarmed the fully healthy Zombie King, while the remaining one tangled with the severely wounded one. After a frantic scavenging spree on the ground, Lin Jia opened his inventory, quickly organized his items, consumed some Lesser Sun Water and Medium Healing Potions, and after freeing up some inventory slots, swept up a massive pile of overlapping Greater Sun Water scattered across the floor.
Regaining his composure, Lin Jia watched his four pets heroically block the danger for him and was so touched he resolved on the spot to summon six 'tires' to protect himself the absolute moment he logged on every time!
The attack speed of Level 7 Black Evil Maggots was truly astonishing. The Zombie King surrounded by the three Level 7 pets let out a continuous string of groaning cries—"Ooh-ooh-ooh-ooh~~"—its backward recoiling motion repeatedly rattling the iron chains on its body, clinking and clanking as if it were singing. Meanwhile, although the other Zombie King was only held back by a single tire pet, the two seemed locked in an evenly matched stalemate!
Lin Jia couldn't see how much health his pets had left and didn't dare let the lone pet endure alone for too long. Ignoring the loot on the ground for a moment, he unleashed a furious barrage of Lightning spells. After five or six strikes, another 8x8 bouquet of blood burst forth right before his eyes, making Lin Jia so blissfully happy he nearly fainted on the spot!
After landing a few more lightning bolts on the other Zombie King, the one swarmed by four pets finally collapsed. However, because there was so much loot on the ground, Lin Jia couldn't even clearly see whether it had dropped anything good. Yet even if it hadn't dropped anything, Lin Jia no longer cared; his mind was entirely occupied with figuring out how to pack all the treasures on the floor back into his bags!
After such an arduous battle, Lin Jia, whose nerves were utterly frayed, decided to hide in a corner to rest for a moment before dealing with the remaining pack of Zombie Kings, which was still about half-full. Just as Lin Jia led his pets into the corner and parked them, he heard the door kicked open with a loud crash. It was Boss rushing in. The moment she entered, she dashed straight behind Lin Jia in excitement, shouting enthusiastically: "What the heck! Number Two! I saw you just as I came in, but then I suddenly got kicked out again! I see so many things on the ground... Ah—no—wait!" When she took in the full-screen chaos displayed on Lin Jia's monitor, she let out a piercing scream completely uncharacteristic of her style. Mind you, Boss rarely screamed like a typical girl.
Lin Jia's heart was still pounding wildly against his ribs. Both Lao Si and Meimei had been shouting in his ears earlier, but his concentration had been so absolute that he hadn't understood a single word. Now that Boss had entered and screamed as well, it filled him with a cheerful, sheepish grin.
Daring not to run too far to pick up items like before—lest he accidentally aggro more than one Zombie King at once—Lin Jia went on a frantic looting spree nearby. He tossed the ordinary equipment into a corner to sort out later, and threw every obtainable potion right into the corner where he was standing so he could easily grab them to save his life if he ran out of medicine again! After a round of organization, Lin Jia discovered that from just that brief battle alone, he had already struck it rich with a massive pile of fantastic loot!
One copy of *Assassination Sword Technique*
One copy of *Half-Moon Slash*
One copy of *Hell Lightning*
One Prayer Necklace: Daoist Attack 0–4
One Soul Spirit Robe (Female): Daoist Attack 0–3
Three minor exceptional items
He had seen all the other items before, but the Prayer Necklace was entirely new to him. Judging by its design and name, it clearly belonged to the same set as the Prayer Helmet! Yet another piece of a set gear!!
Although the 0–4 Daoist Attack attribute wasn't as good as the 1–4 Bamboo Flute Boss was currently wearing, the ornate design of the Prayer Necklace instantly captured Boss's heart.
"Mine!" That was all Boss had to say.
As for that Soul Spirit Robe, which possessed an extra point of class-specific attribute just like the Magic Robe Lin Jia was wearing,
"That's mine too!" Boss declared with absolute certainty.
Although Lao Si didn't say anything as he stood nearby, his earnest eyes stared so fixedly at the fine hairs on the right side of Lin Jia's face that they stood on end, breaking out into yet another wave of cold sweat right on top of his already nervous perspiration.
Among the three minor exceptional items, there was a Large Bracelet with Defense 1–1, Attack 0–2, and Daoist Attack 0–2; a Yellow Crystal Necklace with Daoist Attack 1–3; and a Devil Necklace with Attack 2–2 and Daoist Attack 0–2. Lin Jia said nothing, because on his lap, Meimei was excitedly massaging his thigh muscles in circles with her tiny hands!
This Large Bracelet was even better than the Daoist Bracelet Boss was currently wearing, but Meimei couldn't equip a Daoist Bracelet yet, and Boss was too embarrassed to fight her for it.
The ordinary Yellow Crystal Necklace offered 1–0 Daoist stats and required Level 13 to wear, but its exceptional 1–3 stat attribute would allow Meimei to keep wearing it all the way until Level 24.
A standard Devil Necklace provided 2–0 Attack, but this particular one boasted an extra 2 points to its upper attack limit, making it equivalent to a Blue Jade Necklace while additionally granting 2 points of Daoist Attack—the absolute premier choice for Meimei before she started raising skeletons.
While Lin Jia was still stuck in the Zombie King Tomb, his siblings had completely divided up the spoils of war. Lin Jia suddenly realized with a trace of sorrow that the only thing left for him was a single skill book for Level 30: *Hell Lightning*!
Boss and Lao Si, who had been teleported away to the Southern Mine, had long since abandoned any plans of running back. Still baffled as to how this Zombie King Tomb was accessed in the first place, they were now completely captivated by the remaining dozen or so Zombie Kings, urging Lin Jia to hurry up and wipe out the remaining bosses so they could claim all the hidden treasures stored within.
Lin Jia spent a long time in the corner maneuvering his pets back and forth to lure the monsters, but for the life of him, he couldn't get the pets to form a tight encirclement like before. Simply giving up, he anchored his pets in place, used a Lightning bolt to lure a single Zombie King over, instantly released his pets, and began a sultry five-on-one beatdown. To his surprise, the attack speed was more than twice as fast as before! Of course, this was also thanks to the reduced number of Zombie Kings; otherwise, beating him to death wouldn't have made him daring enough to run around so brazenly inside the Zombie King Tomb!
For the remaining dozen or so Zombie Kings, for some unknown reason, the massive loot drops had dwindled. Potions, however, were plentiful, blanketing the ground like a carpet and forcing Lin Jia to search through the floor for ages after killing each one just to see if any equipment had dropped.
After taking down another six or seven, Lin Jia found it practically impossible to unearth the items he actually wanted from beneath the layers upon layers of potions. He simply decided to slaughter all the remaining Zombie Kings, drink every single potion in one go, and let the remaining equipment naturally reveal itself.
The power of Lightning combined with Level 7 pets was truly astonishing. Before long, the remaining dozen or so Zombie Kings were completely swept away, leaving the ground covered in a thick blanket of potion vials. Breathing a sigh of relief, Lin Jia opened his inventory and began gulping down potions, preparing to scavenge the equipment off the floor. Amidst the frantic picking up and double-clicking of potions, Lao Si suddenly patted Lin Jia's shoulder in delighted surprise and shouted: "Quick! Quick! Another skill book just dropped over there?!"
Startled by the tap, Lin Jia's arm jerked, causing his double-clicking mouse to slide across a grid, clicking directly onto a green scroll. As the cursor swept past, it brushed over the name of that skill book:
*Summon Holy Beast*!
