Chapter 99: Encountering the White Boar Again

Just as Lin Jia was still chuckling foolishly over his little mage’s brave feat of tanking attacks, the Taoist Nangong Zangma sent him a message: “Damn! Are you really a mage!?” This made Lin Jia laugh oddly.
“Just you wait! Every time I see you, I’ll kill you!” With a harsh parting shot, the unlucky Taoist, having lost five levels of skeleton minions, stormed off in frustration. Whether this counts as “losing both the lady and the troops” was unclear.
“Mage gg, are you back yet? I’m safe here, okay?!” This was a message from the little mage Feng Xi.
Having finally driven off the monster-stealing Taoist, Lin Jia was reluctant to return to town. But players darting around had already slaughtered all the cute pigs nearby, leaving Lin Jia somewhat troubled. Taking care of that little mage in the game proved to be quite troublesome.
The boss laughed heartily, “Who told you to flirt with that little mage? If you manage to get her, you have to take responsibility and help her level up!”
“Damn!” Lin Jia was speechless and could only say, “Shall we return to town? Or maybe go to the Centipede Cave to level up? There are too many people competing for monsters here!” Compared to other known high-level leveling maps, the Pig Cave was easier to mingle in. It was much more spacious, with slow but strong monsters and fast but weak ones. Unlike the Centipede Cave, where monsters would immediately overwhelm players, this place suited all three classes, so naturally, it attracted many players.
The boss and the fourth elder nodded. They had a hard time luring monsters — many were good, but if there were guerilla players nearby, some of the monsters they drew would be snatched away. This often forced the boss and the fourth elder to run far to lure new monsters.
“Then let’s go! Let’s finish off that cluster of monsters I lured earlier before heading back — no point wasting them, right?” said the fourth elder.
Lin Jia messaged little Feng Xi to wait a bit longer, then followed behind the boss and the fourth elder to start guerrilla fighting. Their refuge was near a corner with a narrow path that was a monster spawn point, so monsters were densely packed there.
When they arrived, two players were already fighting monsters. Seeing four or five wild boars and scorpion-snakes, Lin Jia’s group gave up and headed to where monsters were more numerous. But just as they rounded the corner, a monster’s roar echoed out. The fourth elder sprinted ahead, and in the glow of his candlelight aura appeared a massive figure!!!

A White Wild Boar!!!?
The fourth elder was startled! When he had come to lure monsters earlier, this giant beast hadn’t spawned. The last time they encountered this monster, its invincible presence deeply shocked the boss and the fourth elder. Who would have thought that such a terrifying boar boss would also spawn on the fifth floor of the Pig Cave?
They had been searching all over the fourth floor for this creature, only to unexpectedly run into it here. Truly, “After endless searching, it comes without effort.”
“Damn!” the fourth elder shouted and turned to flee. The boss instinctively unleashed a flurry of poison talismans, while Lin Jia didn’t even bother with the small monsters nearby, raising his hand to strike down a bolt of lightning, determined to claim the monster’s experience first.
Attracted by the battle, two players behind them saw the boss spawn and quickly abandoned their smaller targets to join the fight. But two Taoists alone did limited damage to the hefty white boar, prompting one Taoist to shout, “Form a party! Form a party! Protect the mage!”
This player was smart. Knowing they couldn’t handle the monster without the mage, they stopped stealing monsters and asked to team up for the boss fight. Indeed, the small monsters around were the biggest hindrance when attacking the boss. The boss quickly copied the shouting Taoist’s name, invited him to the party, and said, “There’s another Taoist speaking!”
In the legendary game, player names were often bizarre. If they included symbols, it was troublesome to type out their names when forming a party. It was easier to have them speak, then copy their name directly from the chat box to the party invite.
The newly formed party of three Taoists, one warrior, and one mage cooperated well. All were experienced players, so they had good teamwork. The fourth elder’s warrior blocked the boar’s steps and cleared monsters near the mage to protect him. The boss’s Taoist healed the warrior and continuously debuffed the boar. The other two Taoists lured small monsters to corners, summoned skeletons to distract them, then vanished and returned, corralling the monsters away to clear space for the boss fight.
Lin Jia’s mage steadily used lightning to lure the boar toward the little clearing where they had burned monsters earlier. He planned to hide behind a T-shaped wall for safety and then confidently strike it down with lightning.
Though his attacks were weak against the boss, the three Taoists, including the boss, persistently hammered the boar with soul fire talismans, not for heavy damage but to stagger and slow the boss. Repeated “paint” spells left the boar’s white, plump face turning red, then green, then red again.

After successfully luring the boss outside the T-wall, the boss and the fourth elder quickly formed a human shield, trapping Lin Jia inside. Feeling assured, Lin Jia unleashed a furious volley of lightning, so tense he didn’t even reply to Feng Xi’s several messages asking why he hadn’t returned.
After nearly five minutes of fighting, just as the boar’s health seemed critically low, a bright bolt of lightning suddenly descended from the sky, striking Lin Jia on the head and stunning him!
The boss, standing at the perimeter, suddenly cursed angrily, “Damn! It’s that Taoist from earlier!” Ignoring his role in the human shield, he quickly cast several poison spells and charged out, with the fourth elder swiftly following to chase off their avenger.
Having taken two lightning spells from their enemy, Lin Jia lost nearly half his health but managed to recover by using a strong healing potion. Meanwhile, the vengeful mage was chased relentlessly by the boss and the fourth elder.
Lin Jia glanced around and saw that the Taoist Nangong Zangma, who had been knocked back earlier, had returned with two players: “Good Guy One” (a mage) and “Storm Hero” (a warrior), both similar in level to Lin Jia and his two brothers. Lin Jia had thought the boss, the fourth elder, and the two newly teamed Taoists could easily drive them off, but then a strange scene unfolded!
With a wave of the hand from their mage “Good Guy One,” six centipedes—monsters only found in the Centipede Cave—descended from above, instantly surrounding the fourth elder who was furiously chasing their mage. Amid a series of agonized screams, the fourth elder staggered backward, unable to move.
The six centipedes with dark blue names snarled at Lin Jia and his brothers:
Centipede (Good Guy One) x6: “We’re here to lend a hand!”
