One Shot Sends Blood Flying

At eight o’clock in the morning, Tiana hurried into the elevator of Qimen Tower.

She had been fast asleep, but the moment she received the emergency call, she immediately logged on.

Although there was still a full hour before work officially began, Mr. Tie was already waiting for her in the president’s office.

Before Tiana could say a word, Mr. Tie spoke first. “Sit down and tell me everything slowly.”

Tiana nodded. This was one of the qualities she admired most in her boss. The greater the crisis, the calmer he became. She opened her briefcase and took out her laptop. A topographical map of the Southern and Central Districts appeared on the screen.

“We’ve just received word that Fifth-Generation Technological Energy has been discovered. Apparently, at least three bottles of mixed energy are hidden in this location, with each bottle containing no less than five kilograms in compressed form.” Tiana moved the mouse, pointing directly at the Deathlands in the Central District.

Mr. Tie frowned. “But that place is outside our sphere of influence, and it’s far too distant.”

“Yes. It’s more than ten thousand kilometers from our Dream Star City,” Tiana explained. “The area belongs to the Arctic Snow Company of Hack City. They built a waterway transit port along the only route in and forbid anyone from entering. Half a month ago, the Arctic Snow branch in Immortal City sent a team of more than a thousand people to search for the entrance to the ruins, but they still haven’t found it.”

Mr. Tie’s frown deepened. “What is the current market valuation of Fifth-Generation Technological Energy?”

“I already asked the Research Department,” Tiana replied. “Fei said that this new type of energy is the shared research focus of technologists throughout Star Wars Online. It can be used in a wide range of manufacturing processes. Its value is currently impossible to estimate—it’s something money cannot buy. Even if an advanced technologist obtained just one kilogram, they could use it to create extraordinarily powerful equipment and machines.”

“It would be disastrous if those three bottles of energy fell into the hands of the Arctic Snow Company.”

Tiana nodded again.

The Arctic Snow Company was one of the most influential corporations in the Central District. It had branches in every major city there. Compared with it, the Blue Ocean Company was little more than a local gang. Arctic Snow was a genuine regular army.

Tiana continued, “More than a thousand members of the Arctic Snow Company are currently conducting a systematic search between the hinterlands and the canyons.”

Mr. Tie was puzzled. “As I see it, they’ve searched for half a month without finding the entrance to the ruins. They probably never received the quest—or they lack anyone with real expertise and are merely hoping to stumble upon it by sheer luck.”

“But according to the information we received, at eleven last night, an expert from Phoenix-Tail City secretly infiltrated the Deathlands. He stole the Arctic Snow Company’s boss monsters and wiped out two of their squads in the jungle.”

Mr. Tie’s face showed surprise. “Who could be so formidable as to provoke even the Arctic Snow Company?”

Tiana answered slowly, “Burst Frenzy.”

Mr. Tie’s eyes lit up.

“Boss,” Tiana said, “I heard that the Arctic Snow branch in Immortal City has already issued an A-rank wanted notice, offering a bounty of one hundred and fifty thousand credits for Burst Frenzy’s capture.”

Mr. Tie rose slowly and walked to the floor-to-ceiling windows, gazing out at the vast spectacle of the city. “I heard about it from a friend. The leader of Immortal City, Free and Unfettered, has admired Blue Sky Star in real life for a long time. He pursued her relentlessly but got nowhere, so he entered the game and began hounding her there instead. Unfortunately for him, Blue Sky Star is far too formidable and doesn’t think much of him. He behaves like a madman, raving and ranting in a way no ordinary person can understand.”

Tiana stared at him for a moment. “Boss, do you mean that this wanted notice…”

Mr. Tie nodded. “Yes. Blue Sky Star was thoroughly humiliated by Burst Frenzy on Blue Moon Mountain, and then the Ironblood Clan of Eighteen-Sixty took over her territory. Free and Unfettered is obviously trying to curry favor with her, which is why he issued the wanted notice. In truth, it’s a foolish move. A woman like Blue Sky Star can only be controlled by a man stronger than she is. Besides, judging from what I know of the various factions, once word of this technological energy gets out, the nearby powers certainly won’t sit idle. They’ll all make a grab for it.”

“But, boss, after the Eighteen-Sixty Clan cleared Blue Moon Mountain, the only place from which aircraft can currently fly to Immortal City is Skyblue City. Phoenix-Tail City has no airport.”

“How many parties know about this information now?”

“I guarantee that we’re the only ones who know.”

“And Burst Frenzy? Is he after the technological energy?”

“There’s more than a ninety percent chance. According to reports, he slipped in through the transit port.”

Mr. Tie’s expression darkened, and he fell silent for a long while.

Tiana knew that expression well. It meant he was preparing to make a move.

She hesitated. “Boss, should we send—”

Mr. Tie waved his hand. “No. We can’t deal with Burst Frenzy yet. Our company is short of combat players, and we’ll need him in many places in the future. This time, we have to find a way to help him. The Arctic Snow Company isn’t the Blue Ocean Company. He can’t handle them alone.”

Tiana immediately understood her boss’s intention. Mr. Tie wanted a share of the technological energy as well.

“But, boss, Burst Frenzy is in the Central District, and he’s out in the wilderness. We have no way to contact him,” Tiana said.

After thinking for a moment, Mr. Tie replied, “Find a way to leak this information to the Blue Ocean Company and make sure Blue Sky Star hears it.”

“What?” Tiana was stunned. “Why?”

A strange smile touched Mr. Tie’s lips. “Don’t worry. Once she knows, she won’t harm him. She’ll find a way to help Burst Frenzy instead.”

Tiana’s eyes widened. Everyone knew that Blue Sky Star and Burst Frenzy were sworn enemies, locked in mortal opposition. She could not believe that Blue Sky Star would help him, no matter what anyone said.

Mr. Tie smiled. “Relax. If I say she’ll help him, then she’ll help him.”

Tiana nodded, though she remained only half-convinced.

An hour later, in the Blue Ocean Company’s conference room in Moon Fantasy City, Blue Sky Star’s expression grew grave after listening to her secretary’s report.

“There are actually three bottles of Fifth-Generation Technological Energy, and the information has been sealed for half a month. If Burst Frenzy hadn’t secretly slipped down from the Blue Moon Range, the news might still be unknown.” A chill filled Blue Sky Star’s face.

Snowy Plum smiled coldly. “Men really are unreliable. Free and Unfettered kept claiming that he would love Big Sister sincerely for the rest of his life, yet he didn’t tell her about such enormous news. He clearly intended to keep it all for himself. Hmph!”

The Dune Witch said, “Big Sister, as far as I know, Burst Frenzy’s Finnish Star was made from this very kind of technological energy. An advanced non-player character forged it for him. The materials were limited, so it never became a truly perfect masterpiece, but its power is already terrifying.”

Blue Sky Star nodded. “Yes. Our operations have suffered repeatedly because of inferior equipment. We cannot give up this energy.”

Three Punches from the Farmhouse asked, “Big Sister, should we activate the Hunter quest and place Burst Frenzy under pursuit?”

“No.” Blue Sky Star shook her head. “We can’t move against him this time. We have to find a way to help him.”

“Why?” the women asked in astonishment.

The battle between Burst Frenzy and their leader at the summit of Blue Moon Mountain had been turned into a video by Eighteen-Sixty and spread throughout the forums. It had received more than ten million views—an unprecedented figure—and had become the hottest news in the Southern District. The humiliation had left the Blue Ocean Company in an extremely difficult position. If they did not avenge that grudge, how could they hope to establish themselves?

Blue Sky Star pondered for a moment before saying, “Free and Unfettered and the others searched for half a month without finding anything. Then Burst Frenzy suddenly appeared. I’m almost certain he knows how to get inside. If we eliminate him, won’t we be giving up the energy?”

The women nodded one after another. Their leader’s thoughts were as meticulous as ever.

Blue Sky Star’s voice turned solemn. “Don’t worry. I have a way to get in. That energy will belong to us sooner or later.”
