083 Do Not Threaten Me
At that moment, Zhong Yun's phone began to ring. He opened his eyes and answered the call. The other party didn't turn on the video. "Hello?"
"Zhong Yun, come out. Right now."
Listening to the dead tone on the line, Zhong Yun scratched his head. He recognized the voice—it was Yang Yunrong, Liu Yunqi's second brother. Judging from his tone, he sounded in a foul mood.
Trouble.
Zhong Yun sighed inwardly, but he couldn't ignore the call.
"What's wrong?" Tian Hai tore his gaze from the computer and asked.
"Nothing, someone's looking for me. I'll step out for a bit." Zhong Yun stood up, informed the class monitor, and left the classroom.
"Who wants to see him?" Tian Hai turned to ask Chen Wen.
"I have no idea," Chen Wen replied with a shake of his head. Yet, the voice lingered in his mind, and his eyes drifted to the corner, where Liu Yunqi watched the door intently...
Stepping out of the classroom, Zhong Yun glanced around and soon spotted the man who had picked him up at Mingzhou Airport two days prior.
"Please, this way." The man gestured politely.
"I never did ask your name," Zhong Yun remarked as they walked.
"My name is Li Pingze," the man answered softly, his gaze fixed straight ahead.
Li Pingze led him to a small grove behind the school. Once Zhong Yun caught sight of Yang Yunrong's back, Li Pingze quietly left.
Yang Yunrong stood with his back to him, dressed casually in an aquamarine outfit. While Zhong Yun tried to guess the reason for this summons, he spoke up, "I'm here."
Yang Yunrong turned around, his expression blank, his eyes sharp and cold. "Where were you last night?" He demanded an answer.
Zhong Yun's heart skipped a beat. He wondered if last night's events had somehow come to light. Still, he kept his face calm and replied, "I was at the Mingzhu Building all night..."
"With a flight attendant, wasn't it?" Yang Yunrong cut him off, his tone turning harsher still. "You actually ran off to fool around with another woman?"
Zhong Yun was taken aback. He never expected Yang Yunrong to confront him over this, and with such hostility, as though bringing him to trial.
"You bastard. My sister treats you so well, and you spend the night with some disreputable woman." Yang Yunrong was shaking with rage; his finger nearly jabbed Zhong Yun in the nose.
"Watch your mouth."
Even a clay figure has some fire within. Zhong Yun was being insulted for no reason, and Qin Qun was being dragged into it too. Although he was merely using that beautiful stewardess and felt nothing for her, it wasn't for others to slander her.
"You dare talk back?" Yang Yunrong was so furious he laughed, his expression full of contempt. "Do you believe I couldn't have you disappear from this world by tomorrow?"
Zhong Yun's gaze turned icy, like a blade of wind sweeping across the Arctic. "I call you Second Young Master Yang because you are Yunqi's brother. Don't think for a moment I'm afraid of your family."
He was truly angry. No one could threaten him, not even Liu Yunqi's own brother.
He was no longer the cautious high schooler who once needed to tread lightly. Now, he possessed an interstellar spaceship more advanced than anything this nation could dream of.
He owned a top-tier spy device—Bee Drone One; an undetectable assassin's tool—an invisibility cloak; and the most powerful light body armor this country had ever seen.
With these weapons of a new era, why should he fear the Yang family?
Yang Yunrong looked at him as if hearing the world’s greatest joke, a strange look in his eyes. "Just you?" He burst out laughing, his scornful mirth unrestrained.
Zhong Yun merely watched him, his face expressionless.
When Yang Yunrong finally stopped laughing, his face darkened. He jabbed a finger into Zhong Yun's chest. "My sister chose you, that's your good fortune. Don't push your luck with me. If I ever catch you with some shady woman again, I won't let you off, even if Yunqi ends up hating me." His words dripped with threat.
"I'm warning you one last time." Zhong Yun brushed the man’s hand aside, raising a brow and wagging his finger slowly. "No one threatens me."
Their eyes locked, neither willing to back down.
Just as the tension was about to snap, a voice dispelled the hostility in an instant.
"Second Brother, what are you doing here?"
Liu Yunqi walked in, her smile as charming as ever. Her gaze flickered from her brother to Zhong Yun, and she blinked. "You two...?"
The two men exchanged a glance and immediately forced smiles, though both saw right through the other's facade.
"We're discussing business," Zhong Yun was quicker to respond.
"Business?" Liu Yunqi eyed her brother skeptically. She knew him best—what business could he possibly have with Zhong Yun?
"That's right, business," Yang Yunrong said, forcing a laugh. At this point, he could only go along with Zhong Yun's lie, unless he wished to expose the night's indiscretions.
He had come here just to teach Zhong Yun a lesson, but he never wanted his sister to find out. Heaven only knew how she'd react if she heard the truth.
Poor brotherly devotion—he was so afraid his sister would be hurt that his anger toward Zhong Yun burned all the fiercer.
"Oh?" Liu Yunqi’s eyes sparkled with amusement. "What sort of business? Mind if I listen in?"
"Of course... no problem," Zhong Yun replied with a smile, jumping in before Yang Yunrong could speak. "I've recently developed a gadget, an energy converter. Your brother was intrigued when I told him about it, so he wanted to discuss a joint venture."
Yang Yunrong glared at him—wasn't this lie getting a bit out of hand? Did his sister really look so easy to fool?
Zhong Yun shot him a calm look, as if to say, "Relax, I've got this."
Seemingly unaware of their silent exchange, Liu Yunqi suddenly clapped her hands and smiled sweetly. "Perfect! I was curious about Zhong Yun's invention. Mind if I come along?"
In a nearby upscale café, Zhong Yun, Liu Yunqi, Yang Yunrong, and Li Pingze sat together at a table.
They sipped their drinks in silence, a strange tension hanging in the air.
Liu Yunqi set down her cup and broke the silence first. "Zhong Yun, I remember you once mentioned developing a little device and applying for a patent."
Zhong Yun smiled slightly. The seed he’d planted over a month ago was finally bearing fruit. "Yes, that's right. I mentioned it to your brother the other day in Walsall, and he seemed quite interested."
Hearing this, Liu Yunqi looked to her brother for confirmation.
Yang Yunrong was still fuming over Zhong Yun’s casual "Second Brother"—did he really deserve that title? But with his sister watching, he could only nod along. "Yes, that's right." Inwardly, he was fuming.
